  • [NES]The Legend of Zelda (Walk through Walls )[PAR]

I've been after a working code that will allow you to walk through walls in all directions while still being able to change screens. I have looked at the ASM routines (that modify your position) for this game and haven't been pleased with my findings. I've tried the GG codes available in the database and couldn't get them to work. Anyone else wanna help out :P.

If you want a start links X coordinate is 0070 and his Y coordinate is 0084.

A code that worked flawlessly for this would be awesome. I would love to add it to my Nestopia Cheat Code Pack.

Very nice find hybrid! I noticed this only worked for horizontal movement (vertical movement seems to be turned off). Also the movement routine must control mob movement as well because I noticed mobs could move through walls as well however could not move vertically like link himself. I could not get this code working using FCEUD, and had to turn to normal FCEU with PRG0 version of The Legend of Zelda with game genie support. I am thinking this is due to an incorrect conversion from ggencoder v0.91 on this particular code. I can't wait to see the final code .

Ok just downloaded FCEUXDSP v1.07 and tried your code again on "Legend of Zelda, The (U) (PRG0).nes". I found it had the same results as the others with limited vertical movement and would only progress on a horizontal path left or right (allowing WTW in either direction). Even tried changing folders just in case the app was getting confused with other build files within the same directory.

              EIONGPEP

and even weirder none of the codes mentioned have the same or similar efffect on hardware

That one works perfectly! Tell me this is for PRG 0 or I will have to reevaluate where I get my roms from now on. Very nice code indeed. You mentioned a second code for inside castles how is that coming along? Thanks for the quick updates on tihs .

Looks like Shigeru Miyamoto programmed error detection in when reaching the edge of the map and relocating you back to the starting area . Well even if you don't find the castle code I think you have done a superb job in this hack. Only glitch I see is that enemies also have the ability to go anywhere, however I believe it is do to enemies possibly using the same moment routine as link. With that being said I really appreciate the time and effort you put into this hack as the world of Zelda (outside of dungeons) is now fully explorable.

Really odd that it wouldn't work on the actual thing. Guess not all hacks are possible with hardware being a factor.

I remember asking you guys about WTW codes, and I appreciated the responses. I still stick to memory search, (and the advice you gave really helps in pinning down values) hopefully this will be helpful to you.

This gives WTW on zelda overworld (doors to the dungeons do not work unless the code is off)
In the emulator I use (mednafen) the value must be "read substitute", not a replaced value.
                          00049e 01

Now, turn the above code on when inside a dungeon, choose a direction, then set (just a regular memory cheat)
                          000053 01

Link will only be able to go the axis he was facing with this enabled. If he is facing right, he can walk through walls to the right or left. If facing up, he can go up and down.

Assuming there is a room in that direction, it works fine.

I hope this can help you make a dungeon WTW code.
