  • Request: Dragon Ball - Le Secret du Dragon [NES/Famicom]

I've decided to finish up my retranslation of Dragon Ball - Le Secret du Dragon. This is the French (PAL) version of Dragon Ball - Shen Long no Nazo for Famicom. The game was released in the US under the name Dragon Power but was modified drastically, including removing Gohan's tail and giving him a special needs haircut. The story and even the music were changed as well.

It would be considerably easier to finish this project up if I could find a version of the Infinite Life code that exists on the American version. (Game Genie: SZVOSZVG). Inputting that code on the French or Japanese versions of the game causes your life counter to go crazy and kills you very quickly.

Looking at the game in FCEUX's hex editor, the life total is stored at 0x2E in all three versions of the game but whatever code the Game Genie code affects was clearly changed. I can, of course, continue to reset the life total manually via the hex editor but it would be considerably more convenient if I could simply play through the game without having to give any thought to my energy, thus extending my motivation to finish this project.

If anyone feels like taking a look at this, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you very much! I didn't even realize their were two different versions of the French ROM. Looks like a got lucky and have been hacking the PRG1 version. I suppose I really should run scans on my various hacking projects to make sure I'm not working on bad dumps of the ROM. Seeing as how some of my projects are several years old (I think I started Dragon Ball in 2003), there's probably a good chance at least one of my projects is on a bad ROM.
