  • A Quick Gameshark regional conversion request

This code is from lennykano's PS1 Final Fantasy VIII EU gameshark code list on Gamefaqs:

    Moving the Card Queen

    300786AF 000x

This code will move the Card Queen to the desired region.

    x = 1 for Balamb
    2 for Galbadia
    3 for Trabia
    4 for Centra
    5 for Dollet
    6 for Fishermans Horizon
    7 for Lunar Gate
    8 for Esthar

Is anyone able to convert this to NTSC Gameshark 3.3, or at the very least show me a way to do it myself? I can't find it anywhere else. Any help is appreciated.

I would like to also know other ways people port codes from one region to another.

The hard way that I've been doin' (with emulators) is to
    1. Make the quickest simplest code you can for one region (USA)
    2. Make that exact same code while playing the PAL version
    3. Use a Hex Calculator to find the difference (Start->Run->calc->View->Scientific)
    4. Use the difference to alter the existing code

Even this isn't always exact, depends on how much of the programming of the game was altered between releases.

    Edit:
Not sure if you know where to find GameShark codes besides GameFaqs or not, but go here. (http://bsfree.org/)

Someone just posted this on GameFAQS:

To convert from a EU code to a US code in FF8, generally you just have to subtract 0x4B0 from the address (that's the first number). To convert from US to EU, add 0x4B0.

      US version: 300781FF 000?

      Same digits for location.

Honestly, I have no idea what he means (I'm pretty new at this.) But the code he posted works perfectly. Hopefully the method he mentioned makes life easier for you though.

Also, thanks for directing me to that site. I was using CodeTwink before, but I've been fed up with all the crap that they've pulled for a while now. I think I'll be using your site a lot more often now. Thanks!

For a basic idea of what he's referring to, you can read this if you like: http://gshi.org/?s=faqs&id=17
