  • Request: Toobin' NES invincibility code

This game seems to go on and on. I'm trying to find out how many total levels there are for my NES Game Endings guide but some of the levels are a bitch, so I was hoping one of you code sleuths can hack an invincible code for this.

Unfortunately, there are no items in the game that give you temporary invincibility, so that won't help. I've seen some invince codes visitntx made for several shooters where there were no power up items to help in the search, nor was there any recovery time after dying, which also helps on invincibility searches, but somehow he made codes for them. He hasn't been around much lately though, so I'll probably be shit out of luck.

If anyone does get into this game, if there is anything you can find to make the game easier, please find it. There is a beach ball power up that makes your shot go much faster. I've played around with save states before and after getting the beach ball and I can't find the address that lets you keep the faster shot. This game has me stumped. Damned Tengen.

Here's some codes that might help you. Tested them on VirtuaNES and FCEU.

    Unkillable
    02D3: 00

How it works: Run into something, and you'll go through your dying animation like normal, but once it finishes, gameplay resumes as if you never died (sorta. The dying sound will keep playing).

    Don't go into dying animation
    004A: 00
    004B: 00

This is for the cloud, because it keeps hitting you with lighting, preventing you from moving at all.

    Faster shots
    003F: 02

    Infinite cans
    004C: FF

This will send you to the last stage of the last class
    Class modifier 006F: 08
    River modifier 0070: 18
    Area Modifier 0071: 18

    How it works:
The river modifier changes what river you play on. This is useful if you want every river in the game to be a really easy one.
The area modifier affects how close to the end of a Class you're at. But the values are different for each class.

Multiplier (I think 9 is the max)
    0066: 09

    Patches
    006E: 09

    All letters
    006D: 7F

Um, wow. You dissected this game to its fullest. Now I can't wait to get back home and bang through this. I couldn't even make a stage select code for this and you found a class, stage and area modifier. Simply awesome.

        ^_^ Thanks.
I wouldn't say to its fullest, but you don't have to worry about getting killed or collecting letters (I read up some more on the game, and found some more codes for it.).

It took a few tries to find the stage and area modifer because the stage values were set up differently. I didn't even notice they were near the class modifier until after I found them.

The Toobin' FAQ at gamefaqs ( http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/nes/game/587714.html ) mentions a stage I didn't come across:

          MOLDAU/SLIMY ZONE = not used

Did you happen to find this slimy zone in your travels? The last stage listed in the FAQ is Class 9 "American" but there is one last stage after that called Beach Party, where you just cruise down a river with no enemies and girls jumping around on the shore. The guy who wrote the guide, ASchultz, has come up with hex codes in a lot of his guides, so I am wondering if he found this Moldau/Slimy zone while hacking cheats and just included it in his faq, even though you don't normally get to it during gameplay, or perhaps a warp zone might lead to it.

At any rate, those really are great codes for this game. Using the unkillable code and the 2 no dying animation codes, I got through this game very quick and discovered that it really does have an ending after all these years. Thanks again.

            Slimy Zone
            River Modifier 0070: 16

It displays the wrong name at first. When you die and start the stage again, then the correct name appears. Took me a while to find because I was kinda expecting something else than a variant of Argentum/Cuprum.

            Edit: Thanks Ace. ^_^

Yeah, I was hoping it would be....slimy or something.
