  • Gameboy Color Boot ROM Dumped After 10 Years

Costis was able to dump the elusive boot ROM from the Gameboy Color by using various voltage and clock glitching tricks. The boot ROM is what initializes the Gameboy hardware, displays the 'GAMEBOY' logo and animation, and makes the trademarked 'cling!' sound effect.

Even decapping the CPU had failed previously, but now the boot image and specifics on how it was dumped (along with many photos) are available for download.

I'm pretty darn interested in this.

To make it bootable in BGB, set 0x0101 to C3 for a jump to 0x0000, copy 0x0104-0x0150 from a working .gbc game into the bios file, and set 0x0147 to 0, then save it as a .gbc file. This should make it look and operate close enough to the real thing.

The tone generated sounds pretty much like what's already ripped for the GB
This reality is mine. Go hallucinate your own.

I heard about this somewhere else first. I think it's intersting that it took this long to dump something like this.
