  • NES Temple of Doom Level Select Codes

    Havent been here for awhile but great to see all the progress. Wondering if anyone could make a GG or PAR code for NES Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom Level 12 selection code. There are GG codes for level select all the way up to Level 8 but I get stuck at level 10. This has to be one of the most frustrating and difficult games ever. I appreciate all your time and amazing effort. Thanks

    GForce, I'll show you how to make those codes yourself. Here are the official Galoob Game Genie codes and their hex values...

    PPKLEKYA = 3C40?0F:11 = Level 2

    IPKLEKYA = 3C40?0F:15 = Level 4

    PPKLEKYE = 3C40?0F:19 = Level 6

    IPKLEKYE = 3C40?0F:1D = Level 8

    As you can see, the only part of the hex code that changes is the last 2 digits (11, 15, 19 and 1D). To make your own codes, go here: http://www.gshi.org/downloads/ggconv.zip and download the GG conversion program. Go to the NES section of that program and enter: 3C40 where it says "Hex Code", then enter: 0F in the second box, then the value you enter in the third box will determine what level you start on. Remember 11 = level 2, 15 = level 4, 19 = level 6, and 1D = level 8. And yes, those are hex numbers, so you may have to use your windows calculator if you're not familiar with counting in hex. Once you enter the third value, the program will give you your Game Genie code.

    EDIT:
    I know what you mean about that game being difficult... I played it many years ago and still remember it being pretty hard. Also, I haven't tried the level select codes to see if they work past level 8, but I see no reason why they shouldn't. Although I am curious why Galoob only went to level 8.

      I entered PZKLEKYA as a GG code and it brought me to Level 12, but you start pretty much trapped in the doorway. Perhaps that is why Galoob didn't include it? Maybe someone smarter than me can figure out how to start in a different section of Level 12, but that's probably not possible.

        You're right adaml... that's probably why Galoob didn't include the codes. I tried values from 1F to 23 and got stuck in the doorway everytime. It may be possible to have him take a few less steps so he lines up with the doorway, but too much time envolved to figure that out.

          When you say trapped in the doorway do you mean when Indy changes levels? The black screen where he runs out of one door, across the screen into another door? This is what Ive done so far: PAR code 0012:63 brings you to a WAVE 12 black screen with jumbled letters. When you pause the game, theres now list of your weapons or how many kids you need. You appear on the door in front of the rope bridge but you cant move. I press down and he hops off the door, now hes between the door and the bridge. Then I jump toward the bridge and now I'm running across the top rope and the sky has light blue patches in it now. When Indy is running on the top bridge rope, turn off the PAR code I put in this post. The pause menu is restored and the sky is back to normal. When you get to Mola Ram, it goes back to the pause menu. Hit start and now youre on the ladder chasing him upwards. When you get to the top he flames out and you see the woman and Data. It says YOU WIN on the top of your inventory page as it counts down all your leftover weapons and lives. You have to turn your codes off so they can count down. There is not even and ending screen unless I didnt do something correctly to get the "good ending" but I wont ever be playing this again. Finished and checked off my list. Thanks everyone for your help and time working on this.

            If memory serves me right you get a better ending if you whip the girl. Really.

              Youre right, I went back and played it again and whipped her. The whip brings her closer to Indy and she says "YOU WIN BIG MAN".

              AdamL, Ive been reading your work on NES for years, honestly I'm kinda star struck. Your walkthroughs helped me through some tough spots. Thanks for taking the time to help me on this matter.

              Tony H, since I've moved from my NES console to emulators, I've read a good deal of your work about hacking and GG codes. I'm also kind of star struck after seeing your name on various sites about NES. Thanks for taking a look at this thread and adding your input.

              Ive been playing NES for about 20 years, with both of your contributions to the NES universe, I'll probably be playing for the next 20 years too.

                Thanks for the kind words GForce. Anything I've done for the NES is a labor of love and it's nice to know that all the stuff I've documented over the years helps someone. And yes, it is good to see Mr. Hedstrom posting stuff again. He's a code legend! ReyVGM is banging them out now, as he seems to have taken the place of the awol visitntx, who I miss.

                I have a slew of codes that I haven't posted here, as I got a brusque reply about a year ago when I transferred a bunch of codes from an old site to here and was told I was posting them in an incorrect format or something. A little tact would have been nice, but I guess they were not that important to begin with
