  • Super Mario Bros. 2 (Japan) ROM

I found a ROM of the Japanese version of Super Mario Bros. 2, aka "the Lost Levels". Its an NES file so it will play on a regular emulator. For some reason this was really hard to find.

    http://emu-russia.net/en/download/ro...o_Bros._2_(J)_[!].zip

There's a second file. What does 'Kaiser Pirate' mean?

Another question: A while back I stumbled across a website with a handful of Super Mario Bros. hacks. Basically made-up Super Mario Bros.-type levels. They were playable as Flash games but the site vaugely mentioned ROMs. Does this sound familiar to anybody?

I heard about a NES emulator that runs as a Firefox plugin.
Can't remember its name. Maybe its something simillar .
Also these roms are avalaible on the latest GoodNES release.

I don't use Firefox, though. I bookmarked it on my mom's laptop when I was visiting over christmas. I'll have to get the URL next time I am over there. It really surprised me. These were games that more or less used Super Mario Bros. 1 elements, rearranged to create new games--- playable on my web browser.

BTW I am playing the New Super Mario Bros. rom on a Nintendo DS emulator (no$NDS) and for some reason it doesn't show a score at the top of the screen. Not even a line of zeros. Also, the map screen is kind of cooky. The World 1 map (where I am now in the game) is a blank screen, and there's a blinking red dot showing where Mario is supposed to be on it. I'm talking about the upper half of the lower frame.

      (edit)
Nevermind I fixed the score problem. Still have the map problem, though.

There it is. I think it means the files are IPS files, and the IPS patch lets me play them...? o.o They look like home-made Super Mario Bros variations.

          o_O

IPS files are not ROM files. They are only records of modifications to be done to a ROM.
If you like to play SMB hacks, take a look at romhacking.net. There's lots of these there.

And so is the fake Wario's Woods spc which is actually Mario & Wario.

I am not sure but back in the early days of emulation when ever you searched for SMBJapan also know as Lost Levels for the regular Nintendo or Famicom, it would claim that SMBJ was known as Rambo I have the original Kaiser Pirate from back then and it calls Mario, Rambo. Also it has a much different title screen and instead of being called Super Mario Bros. 2 as lost levels was in japan it has a 3 in the title. There also was a SMB2J hack by some Japanese hackers that has Super Mario Bros 2 or Super Mario USA Graphic's and altered levels and is a much harder game than regular Lost Levels. I don't know if it is in the goodnes set I had it a long time ago. It was awesome..

yes, i know the IPS files are not rom files, but how do you sure they are only records of modifications to be done to a rom?
