  • Hey ugetab?

Excuse me in advance for bothering you with more music stuff. I don't know if you can or if it's possible but...

Is there anyway, on a Gameboy game, doing whatever it is you know how to do, to find a hidden soundtest (if there's one)?

I'm updating my Castlevania music FAQ and I noticed there are no official track names for Castlevania Legends (Gameboy). Basically because there's no official soundtrack and the game doesn't have a soundtest.

I checked the rom with a hex editor and the only readable text I found was:
    "SOUND.SIMULATER.BY.KCEN.BGM.OKADA8.SE"

I don't know if that means that there is a soundtest or a way to see if there are names assigned to the music (I might be talking out of my ass there).

Does your massive knowledge allows you to research into this? If you can't find anything in the American version, try the Japanese one (Akumajou Dracula - Shikkokutaru Zensoukyoku).

The Japanese version could have something considering the previous game, Castlevania 2 Belmont's Revenge, had a soundtest with full track names in the Japanese version, but the American version did not.

    *EDIT*
Ok, the Japanese version deffinitely has something. I found this with a hex editor:
    .A%..AF....OKADA8...................A%..AF....OKAD A9...................A%..AF....BATTLE............. ......B%..BF....A.SANCTUARY.OF.DRACULA,B%.8BF....A LUCARD.................OB%.[BF....GUEST.HALL..............rB%.~BF....OKADA>... ................TITLE...................DC%.PCF... .PROLOGUE................gC%.sCF....OKADAE........ ...........C%..CF....OKADAF...................C%.. CF....OKADAG...................C%..CF....OKADAH... ................C%..CF....BOSS9................... .D%."DF....A.REQUIEM

Those are deffinitely song titles, so there must be something hidden in there

    Done
    Eng/Jap Version:

Get a game to the point that you can move around, then enable this code:

    Enable Sound Test
    010B20C5

    Or

    GG codes:

    Die for Sound Test:
    Eng:
    0B0-41D

    Jap:
    0B0-19D
This reality is mine. Go hallucinate your own.

      Good god....
You don't joke around do you...

Do you think there might be a way to access the sound test using a button code?
I guess not then. This looks more like something only meant for the devs.

Thanks for the incredible help, yet again!

          Heya Ugetab.
Could you try and see if you can also find a soundtest in the in the Japanese or American SFC/SNES Castlevania Dracula X?
I looked at the rom with a hex editor and didn't find evidence of one (like the previous game you cracked), but I did find this:
          "STAGE NOÿkJAREA NO"

Looks like maybe an actual stage select left in by the devs.

I'm really only interested in a possible soundtest cheat (crossing my fingers that it uses actual song titles), but if you can also find a stage select code, then better for everyone else.

How do you find button codes?

Ugetab should be the one to know that. However, I doubt that this game has actual button codes for the level select or soundtest (if there's any).

A rudimentary search turned up nothing I could use to find the stuff in question. Even going by the level select writer, there wasn't anything overtly obvious as being debug code(unlike BoF2, which screamed DEBUG when I found it)
