  • Silent Hill 2 v1.0

Version 1.0 of this game is the non greatist hits version that doesn't have the extra Maria scenario.

    JOKERS
    d1033e02 0000????
    d1033e82 0000????

    Speed Modifier
    203e70bc xxxxxxxx
weird speed modifier, uses float values. The only way to slow down is to move forward or backward with the analog stick. The camera can't move fast enough to keep up though. Use it with a joker command to control it. Attach it to one button, and as long as you hold that button down you will move very fast. The instant you let go of the button you will return to normal speed.
    10 = 41200000 - quite fast
20 = 41a00000 - faster, just fast enough to go through walls
40 = 42200000 - very fast and you can go through walls easily

    Green Hyper Spray

    End results codes
    Have All 5 Endings

    Have extra +7 items

    Room Modifier Thing
    01224bf0 000000??
    012361e0 000000?? (<--- greatest hits)
I went through the weird room modifier digits. You tend to get different rooms depending on which room you load a save from. But there seems to be a certain few digits that are always working and put you in a normal room, unlike most digits that put you in the same room but no monsters and you can't go through doors. wherever you load a save from, you'll usually end up in a room by the ones in the digits.

These are digits when you start a new game
02 - you start the exact same way as you normally do
07 - inside the apartment room where you got the flashlight (normal)
13 - inside same hospital room (normal)
1c - inside silent hill historic center building's save room. Enter prison to make things normal
26 - close by the boat scene outside the level boundaries. turn until you see the light and run towards it to get to the motel, then everything should be normal
28 - inside motel lobby save room (normal)
2c - trapped in room where you fight 2 pyramid heads (they aren't there, so you are trapped and the doors are locked unless you use the have all items code for the 2 eggs or whatever they were, otherwise it would be normal)
34 - inside the room in the video that mary was in
35 - inside empty hospital, no monsters and you can't interact with anything

    1-Hit Kills and Freeze Enemies
    01224c64 000000ff
This code is a unusual side effect of the action level modifier. You will want to joker it. Turn it on just before the start or load a game to turn on 1-hit kills. Once 1-hit kills are on you can turn it off by entering another room with it set to 3 or lower. You will want it jokered because you will need to turn it off at times. The 2 pyramid heads at the end of the game can't be killed if they are frozen. You need to turn it off so they can do their thing where they walk to the center of the room to kill themselves. But otherwise, freeze works fine for most enemies.

    Better Controllable Camera (BUGGY!)
    01224b86 000000??
It doesn't matter what value you give it, once it's on you can't turn it off. It works great with that speed code I made because you can press L2 to change the camera so it follows you very close and doesn't need to catch up. It doesn't always work. It can also freeze the game. The game froze in that little motorhome where you get the hyper spray when the camera angle tried to change.

    Ported Szalay's Mini Map Code
    01224c79 00000001
It reminds me of the old doom map with the IDDT cheat. You can see all the level boundaries, you and everything else are triangles, and the map rotates as you turn. Every address around this one is stuff in your options menu.

If you use codetwink no saves code, it should be 16-bit. 11224BFA 00000000 gives you 0 saves.

I removed the 2 codes to set Hard Difficulty and Extra Riddle level, I didn't know gameshark.com already had them.

          About difficulty settings codes

About that, I've not seen any codes like those for v. 1.1, and I've checked the three official disk sites and GSHI and CMP. Could you maybe convert them from the 1.0 version of the game over to working on 1.1? And just out of curiosity, I don't suppose you've found other fully functional difficulty levels beyond the ones the game normally allows, like there was in SH4?
EDIT: I forgot to ask what part of those codes I'd need to change to switch between other difficulties, as well. I assume it's the usual, but I felt it would be wise to ask just in case. But yeah, so I can switch back and forth if I'm having a hard time for whatever reason.

So other than the final confrontation with the two PH, the kill/free code doesn't cause any serious issues? Well that's great, I'd have thought it would have had other risks, like with the original pyramid head, or with the actual final boss. If you tried it with the final boss, did it actually end the fight in one blow, or did it just down it for the final strike like the game normally has happen? Anyway, I don't have version 1.0, so if you could translate it for 1.1 then that would be great also. Thanks!

Odds are it's very simple math. The difficulty and riddle level are right by the other codes. Just figure out how far away they are, and apply that difference to the version 1.1 codes.

            Difficulty digits are the same thing. 00, 01, 02, 03, 04. Or maybe there wasn't 04?

EDIT: Wait, I can't seem to find any difficulty level modifying codes for 1.1 anywhere. Has someone already ported one of the 1.0 codes to version 1.1 and I'm just not finding them somehow, or should I make a request for that somewhere? Or do I just need to take the freeze enemies and kill in one hit code and change ff to 00, 01 etc?

The difficulty levels are Beginner, Easy, Normal, and Hard, so yes there would be at least 4 total, but I wouldn't know yet if there would be a 00 involved or if it would start at 01. I'll try different stuff and post what I find (if it's any different than what you've just said, that is). Thanks for explaining it, that's what I figured, but I prefer to check just in case so there's less experimentation needed.

On the subject of Maria's health and invincibility values when a part of the escort sections of the main scenario, maybe the hallway chase scene leading to the elevator would be a prime target for that sort of thing. In my experience, that scene is the hardest part of the game if you have health and ammo codes on for the whole game. I can escort Maria around all day, but when I'm forced to leave her behind like that and just run around corners like crazy, it would be helpful for her to be superwoman for a while or of course if there's a way to freeze enemies in their tracks without hitting them (Joker command or something, just press and blamo they're going nowhere) then it might help, too. Just a thought. I'd prefer the health stuff, personally. Makes it slightly more realistic if he's still chasing us. And inf stamina for that scene for her would be cool too.

If you are having trouble with that scene, somebody has already made codes to give Maria infinite health.

I was saying find the codes that are found for both versions, and find the one that's address is closest to the difficulty codes. Difficulty for version 1.1 would probably be the same distance away for both versions.

Did you check gameshark, AR Max, and codebreaker sites for the difficulty code? I know gameshark has the difficulty code for version 1.0, they might have found it for version 1.1 too.

CodeTwink seems to be the only site which features official codes for 1.1. Gameshark.com and Codejunkies.com both only seem to have 1.0 codes. Basically, so far I've only seen 1.1 codes on codetwink (which are of course for codebreaker), CMP, and this site. That's the thing, it seems like the game has been neglected completely by GS and AR official codes, which is odd since SH2 is one of the most popular games of all time...

Anyway, all I've seen anywhere in terms of maria codes was a fake code that supposedly made her invincible, it was on the CB to RAW thread for the game on CMP, but everyone said the code was bogus and didn't work with any disk or format. So if you've seen codes for invincibility or inf health for her, please post a link or something.

I'm obviously new at the whole hexadecimal thing, so I've had a hard time with "adding 18d80" to the 1.0 codes to make them work on 1.1. I tried that method on some of the codes that you've already posted both versions of, so that I'd know whether I was doing it right if the outcome of my attempt matched the 1.1 versions you posted, but whether I did it without or even with a compatible calculator, I ended up with a different resulting number. Not sure what I'm missing in that regard. Or was you comment on that CMP thread specifically about that one code, and not a universal thing for the game's codes?
