  • Request: Galg (NES)

    Galg is a shooter for the Famicom. The purpose of the game is to collect 100 "enemy parts" finding 1 on each level across 30 levels.
    Basically you play all the 30 stages over and over until you get 100 "enemy parts". Those "enemy parts" are just red squares on the ground. You start with 100 of them and it counts down to zero while you collect each of them.
    After you collect them all, you have to play all the way to stage 30 again to encounter the boss.

    So my request is for a have all "enemy parts" collected cheat(should read 0), invincibility cheat (if possible) and a stage select (if possible).

    For the love of my life I can't figure out how to create an invincibility cheat with FCE Ultra. I don't know where to even start.
    I also couldn't find out the "enemy parts" value. All the ones I found screwed up the graphics.

    Try this:

    Galg (J)
    ======

    PESEGPGT Only 1 Part to Collect (from Start)

    It's quite possible that poking 0 instead of 1 will work just fine, but there's always a chance that it won't so just incase (and because I didn't want to do much testing) this has a better chance of working correctly.

    I might have a look at invincibility later.

      This time I'm robbing one request.

      Galg (J)
      ======
      Infinite Lives
      OXNEAAVK

      Invincibility
      SZKZUTAX
      SZXUXPAX
      SZKKXYAX

      If someone want to know why three codes: one for enemies, one for bullets (shots, everything), one for the lazer things. Still collisioning with walls will destroy the ship. Tested throught four levels, or rounds, and nothing seems to kill the ship.

          Damn, you posted Invincibility as I was posting......
          Anyway, I think mine is possibly better - 2 codes and protects against background too.

          One code is for sprite to sprite and one code is for sprite to background

            I see, I was working on object collisions. Heheh, I used this game as an experiment to see another way to do invincibility codes. I took a look again and was able to do codes that does the same as you Pugsy. Heheheh, I should have done those to post and let the others just for fun to test them. Sorry bout that, use the codes by Pugsy, and don't add mines, even if they work fine having two for a complete invincibility is better.

                Wow, Pugsy is here?

                Thanks for the codes guys. I don't know how you do it so fast.
                Any tips on how to find invincibility cheats?

                I understand that if a game doesn't have ANY kind of invincibility it could be a pain to find one, so how would one find such things?

                On FCE Ultra XP's cheat engine, I click on Reset to make all the addresses appear. Now what do I do from there? On both games that have invincibility (from dying, or getting hit) and games with one hit deaths (no invincibility whatsoever).

                  There are different ways to get invincibilities. When a game doesn't have any flickering status that could gives us an invincibility we have to look at two alternatives.

                  But first let me point something, that a game character never flickers doesn't mean there is no invincibility. Some games, as a brawl for SNES, SOR 2 and 3 for Genesis and a twinbee will make the character invincible as like a flashing status does when a live is lost, but the character never flickers or flashes.

                  If that fails now you have to look for sprite to sprite collision or disabling the dead status. Both has huge dissadvantages when it comes to RAM addresses. And depending of the console frequency sometimes will be a pain and impossible to do. You can find that music stops, colors change, graphics become deformed, garbage, etc. So the best for these kind of invincibilities is to modify the code. But you can try, sometimes you will be lucky, sometimes you will need more RAM addresses for the colors or the graphics.

                  Now, how to search them depends. If you die after being touched you will mostly use a bigger search, or big than, or more than, call it as you want. When the character appears again on the level you will do a less than search. And so on. You will have to look at some addresses but with experience you will see a pattern. If there is no luck you will use that change the value when dies and change again when appears on the level to keep playing a new live.

                  If the game uses energy you will not die after being touched, and this will be harder as you have to be really precise to do a search for a collision here. A sprite to sprite collision. Again, when touched bigger, not touched less. Or change. Remember to use some equals searchs to dramatically reduce the number of addresses.

                  Now, this is really basic and only practice and some knowledge of how things work will give you the key to do them correctly. Probably I'm missing something I can't remember right now, but with that you can start to practice.

                  Anyway, hope this helps to you and someone else trying to figure it out. I'm really bad writing this sort of things, Pugsy explains better than me. Sorry if the reading becomes a mess.

                    Ok, I'll try and see what I can learn from that.
