  • Super Punch-Out - Pouring salt in an old wound

I was just reminded of something about the game that's pissed me off for quite some time. There are 2 or 3 boxers that it's impossible to KO without cheating; Sandman and Bald Bull come to mind. I'd seriously like to know how they manage to get back up no matter how much you beat on them. Use the PAR code to freeze them at 0/1 knockdown so there's no TKO, kill the timer and go to work. You'll see what I mean.

Has anyone ever attempted hacking the CPU's stats? or something? It would go to reason that each boxer would have their own set of stats. Problem is how to find them.

Are ya talking about the NES game, or SNES game? I have no trouble KOing either of those dudes on the NES without using any code.

In the SNES game, I can generally TKO them with 3 knockdowns. Sandman is tuff to KO, but I once did it with 2 knockdowns in each of the first 2 rounds, and when his energy bar ran out in R3, he was KOd by the 2nd knockdown in the round.(6th KD altogether) That's playing an old cart on the real SNES, not the emu.
I come from a smart family...In the Civil War, my great-grandpa fought for the WEST.

SNES. TKOs are a no-brainer. The problem is scoring a KO on them in the first round. It's virtually impossible on Bald Bull, Sandman, and probably a couple others. Try to KO Bald Bull with these on...

      7E0B2800

Using Infinite Health and Super Punch for P1 would also be wise.

p.s. Another question that comes to mind is how exactly does the game determine how much of the CPU's health to refill after a knockdown?

edit: I tried letting it go multiple rounds. I've knocked down Bald Bull a couple dozen times now and still only get 9 counts. Doesn't matter how you hit him (regular punch, super punch, counter the bull charge), you never get more than a 9.

edit 2: I also tried using an ASM hack to set knockdown count back to 2 instead of ending the fight at 3. I've come to the conclusion that the actual number of knockdowns doesn't have anything to do with whether or not they get back up. Now we need to figure out what does and why it makes numnuts like Bald Bull impossible to KO normally.
