Adventures of Lolo 3 (NES) problem

This sounds minor. Is there anything that will play Adventures of Lolo 3 without screwing up? I've tried it with FCEUXD 1.07 and JNES. When I hit the select button in the middle of action, it takes me back to the map screen and I have to redo whatever it was I was in the middle of doing. This is a new game to me but I don't think this is part of normal gameplay. (For what its worth, I have the select button set to the 'A' key on my keyboard and the start button to 'D', but I use F2 to pause the game because its just simpler that way and keeps AIM conversations from interfering with the game. The B button is set to the 'X' key and the A button is set to the 'Z' key.)

I think that the select in lolo 3 does that, it's a redo key, if you messed things in the puzzle you press select. But dunno really, not my kind of games.

Select resets a stage, Start exits the level.

try this:
Put Select on "V". and Start on "F".

This generally keeps them out of the way.

Ah, ok. I just noticed that with Lolo 1 --- you can use the select key to kill your character in case you get stuck.

I can't get Lolo 2 or 3 to play on JNES, btw. Maybe its just my ROMs of the games.
