  • Dreamcast Codes: How do you find them?

    Hello,

I've just seen the codes for Rez for Dreamcast on your DB. Thanks for that! They aren't available anywhere else!

    Just two questions:

    1) The following code (for Rez) is wrong, it has 9 digits!
    Infinite Health EECA716D9-00000008

2)How it is possible to find Dreamcast codes as they aren't any Cheat device with built-in code generator/memory dumper? I'm very insterested into knowing this method.

    Thanks!

PS: Sorry for my pretty bad english, i'm not an native English speaker.

As the two most similar adjacent digits are "EE", you might try changing it to ECA716D9, assuming there was a simple typo. Though, I don't know anything about DC code structure.

Emulation, coupled with RAM hacking, whether built-in to the emulator, or via a standalone app. Then, conversion to codes that will work in a hardware cheat device, though I don't know if that involves simply offsetting (a la the PSX GS), or offsetting and encryption (a la most PS2 cheat systems). Again, I don't know a thing about DreamCast hacking, so perhaps someone else can shed some light on the specifics.
    I may be lazy, but I can...zzzZZZzzzZZZzzzZZZ...

There is an utility called ChankastCheater that lets you find codes, it can be used with nullDC (if .exe name is changed and the emulator run windowed). It's very good, but i didn't test it in real hardware.
I don't know too much, but it seems that the codes in dreamcast use like 00 for 8bit codebreaker, 01 for 16bit and 02 for 32bit, and it seems too that the base address should be substracted when the code is founded under cheat engines.
Hope someone who really knows about this can help a little more.

It's quite likely the address on that code is encrypted. The Dreamcast CB had a way of encrypting either everything or just the addresses, but there was something screwy with how it worked.

The way a lot of codes were made, was using a special PCI slot card, and something like 70 wires connected to the motherboard. The company that made the board stopped very soon after it went on sale, and unfortunately had also covered the board in epoxy, making finding out what generic parts they used rather difficult.

I thought only the GS used encrypted codes, and the Xploder/CB took RAW ones. I probably still have a cracked DC shark ISO somewhere that takes raw codes. hehe

I wish the people writing NullDC would get off their asses and get it working with more games. I still want to fix the goddamn Infinite Specials code for WWF Royal Rumble. It needs a damn assembly hack, and CMX never went back to fix it when DC hacking was alive.

GS cracked iso takes both Encrypted and Decrypted codes, the CB also takes Raw codes but it was programmed to take only REAL games.I'm not sure there was a cracked version of it.
