  • Catlevania SOTN, Debug Room and other secrets?

    I found this page:

    http://www.classicgaming.com/castlevania/sotn-weird.htm

and on that page, some interesting info, but the GS code, the debug room. Anyone aware of what this does, if anything special?

This is the debug room, which doesn't seem to do a whole lot. The Game Shark code to enter this is:

    80097918 0040
    800974A0 0040

I have not tried it yet, as never even knew about it, but I guess I shall soon, and hope something good is from it.

Cool, I've been looking around for that code recently, to see what exactly it does. Now if I could just figure out what version of SotN I've got... Damn GSCCC removing alternate versions of games...

Neat, I myself have no idea what it does... I just known and knew for awhile now it was talked about alot. And now that it is finaly found, I guess the time comes to figure it all out what it does.... errr seems like an old code, just one that has been lost for a long while, that is why I was sorta amazed I found people even talking about it these days.

An old code in meaning seems like it should of had a FAQ posted somewhere, pretty sure it did, but where that is much like alot of other codes and FAQs are just simply not on the net, anylonger...if even in our memories.

*Recalls the print out 47 pages of ALL FFT codes and a how to code wise anything ever posted over once at GameFaqs that is now and has been forever, missing and being all well relieved as I soon have to get back to FFT codes abit*

Anyway as for the topic at hand, not sure who hacked that code at all, nor even if that hacker is still around, but that page linked seems to be one place it has popped up at, and in any case I shall get to it soon (not got it done yet GC AR mess) But shall soon, not that I can figure mess out but ehhh... as always any finding will be always welcomed to see what can be done and all that goodness.

Otherwise...gahhhh well, I know some games have different versions, but SOTN has different versions? I did not know this.... I do wonder if how ever many versions they are causes codes not to work or such with some of them.... I do remember back in the GameShark days when GSCCC.com did have different pages for different game versions...blahhhh I guess that went kaput as soon as the whole fall through with interact came about. ahhh the evilness of all things related to money I guess....

I followed this code when it first came out. There were messages in the Castlevania Dungeon forums and in gamefaqs but noone has found anything special about it. My friend believes it was jjust a room to test collision and animations and stuff. Tho who knows, maybe another code needs to be found to activate any special features if this game were to have some.

I don't think there were 2 versions of the game. Cause every code seems to be usuable on either version. Tho I don't quite understand the debug room. Someime it works, and sometimes it don't...no matter if your using the original version, or greatest hit version.

I just tried it out, and it seems kinda boring. The only interesting thing is the japanese voice track played when you're in there. Too bad I don't know what it says.

Taking a look, it seems that the debug code is an area modifier, and both addresses are the same value always. It's possible to go from the normal game into the debug room, but it tends to crash sometimes. I'm not sure what causes that.

Yeah, I think one code modifies the room, and the other the tileset used. I remember messing around and using the tileset code only and having some trippy graphics while in other levels.
