This might be a strange request, but I'll explain.
Basically, when I was a kid, I accidentely found a secret level on this game, and I've always wanted to find it again. Unfortunately, the way I found it involved physically hitting a corner of my NES, and I was never able to duplicate it.
So, by causing the game to glitch, Albatross actually appeared on the main splash screen. I was unprepared for this and died instantly, but after that I was started in a seemingly randomly generated glitch level. It went on forever, and eventually I got bored and pressed reset. But I could never get the effect to work again.
Now that I think about it, i realize that the main attract mode screen and maybe even all the cut scenes, must actually be levels that are embedded in the game, but aren't normally possible to play. It would be interesting to try and find those levels in the code and try to play them again.
Anyone want to give it a shot?
