  • [Code Request] Rampage NES

    Punch once to damage buildings.

The TL;DR: In all these years, still owning my original copy of the game from its year of release, I never once noticed or cared that there's absolutely no feedback at all on your first punch every time you hit a building. You have hit it twice to make a hole, but the first punch doesn't make a visible crack, or even a sound of any kind. It's just totally nerfed. Other versions of the game just let you knock holes with one punch. It never occurred to me until last night when I watched No Swear Gamer's review and he remarked that it "takes [him] out of the game". I wouldn't say it bothers me that much, but I do think the game would be more fun, more visceral, and much SHORTER, since it's such a LONG and TEDIOUS game as is. I mean... half as much punching, right?

    I hope this is do-able.

    Rampage (USA) (NES)

OXXZYOPV First punch always connects on hittable buildings/objects (1 of 4)
ZEXXAPPA First punch always connects on hittable buildings/objects (2 of 4)
OZKZLOPV First punch always connects on hittable buildings/objects (3 of 4)
ZAKZGPPA First punch always connects on hittable buildings/objects (4 of 4)

PEVNGXNY Enable Day Select after Character Select Screen (Enable code and reset game)
058E:01 Enable Day Select after Character Select Screen

Note: Mezmorize had already found the Game Genie code for Enabling the Day Select Screen.

So far I've tested through 10 stages and it never fails. The only caveat is it doesn't seem to apply to downward punches, but those don't damage buildings as much and are less useful anyway. I'm satisfied and I thank you highly.

These 2 codes should work for the downward punches:

        OZKZLOPV
        ZAKZGPPA

You're crazy, and I love you.

It also seems to effect things like vehicles on the ground, making them much easier to hit and destroy.

          Thanks again very much!

Yeah, the developers made a really dumb decision in making the first punch never hit. I'm guessing that the reason why they did it was to add more difficulty to the game. However, if they wanted to make the game more difficulty, they should have just made it so the buildings and objects take more hits to destroy.

Anyway, I'm glad the codes worked out so well. They certainly make the game much less frustrating to play.

I agree. The game is much easier when it's possible to grab up food almost twice as fast. Still one God forsaken photographer is enough to send me right back to a naked, humiliated human.

I think No Swear Gamer had a good point that it would have worked out better if there were just some feedback on the first punch.
