  • Gameshark N64 Pro V3.3 troubles

    Hi there!

I recently purchased a Gameshark Pro version 3.3 without a LED. I had some trouble trying to boot it up but after trying a few keycode games (Mario 64, Zelda etc.) it finally worked with Banjo-Kazooie.
So I was excited and switched the keycode to Zelda, because I wanted to try my hand on beta questing Ocarina of Time. I turned off the N64 and switched Banjo-Kazooie with Zelda Ocarina of Time.

The game booted up with Zelda now, it didn't before because of keycode probably, and I reviewed the list of games in the cheat menu. Eventually I scrolled down to the letter Z. Here I found 'Zelda V1.0', 'Zelda V1.1' and 'Zelda V1.2'. I figured that I should go with the latest one so I picked 'Zelda V1.2'.
I picked the cheats 'maximum arrows' and 'press L for levitation' aside from the Master code. I returned to the main menu which now said Zelda V1.2. Before this was Rogue Squadron.

I started the game with cheats and the game booted up just fine. I opened up my save game and it looked like that I received maximum arrows, but not sure if I already started with those or not. To check if the cheats were working, I pressed L but nothing happened.
I figured the levitation cheat wasn't gonna work anytime soon and I wanted to return to my main menu so out of habit I just pressed the reset button on the N64.

Now here's the tricky part. Ever since I pressed reset, the Gameshark won't boot up anymore. I tried Banjo-Kazooie and a load of other games but nothing.

Can anyone tell me what happened here? Did I break it somehow or did I just goof and it should be an easy fix? Please guide me as I just started out with using Gameshark and the internet mostly just comments on how you should piggyback one Gameshark with another one.

If you have any questions also let me know, I tried to be as detailed as possible.

First off, when the gameshark says Zelda v1.0, v1.1, etc it is because there are different revisions of the game itself. You can use this guide to figure out which version you have.

As far as the gameshark not booting at all, they can be a real pain sometimes. It may need reflashed, which is what I believe these websites are talking about when they are piggybacking them. But first you may want to try something simple like cleaning the contacts of the cartridge connectors just to be sure it's not an easy fix before buying another gameshark and risking damage to both.

There are many guides to cleaning the contacts, the coolest way is to get a 1upcard.

Alright. From what I can gather from your guide, my version is 1.2 as PAL is always 1.2.

Well I figured that might be an answer to the problem but I was mainly wondering how doing the things I did could lead towards not booting anymore.

From your description I wouldn't say you did anything wrong. It's possible the gameshark reacted poorly to something like the reset, but I would fault the aging, finicky device for that. Maybe someone here could provide better insight, but I own many gamesharks and I know they can just be an asshole when they want to be.

I can't find the software that you need right now, we have it here on the site for PSX, but not N64. I'll see if I can find a good link. Keep checking this post.
