  • PSX Final Fantasy VII Tip...

While this is not a new code, it can help speed up Chocobo breeding.

One of the most-tiring parts of chocobo breeding is to mate two Great chocos twice to obtain both a green and a blue choco of opposite genders. Often, after breeding them the first time, after you fight enough random battles for them to be able to mate again, you get a new choco like the first one that was born. (Hopefully, you saved your game before you entered the stable to breed them the 2nd time!)

If this occurs, reset your game & then enter the stable without doing anything else, and immediately exit the stable, again without doing anything else, & re-enter, THEN speak to Billy. You should then be able to breed a new choco of at least the opposite gender of the first one they produced, and usually the other color. If that doesn't work, repeat the whole process a few times. If it still doesn't work, which is rare, reset & feed any choco any green, whether it needs it or not, and breed the Great chocos again. You should be able to obtain the two new chocos you need much-faster!

(If you reset with any Gameshark codes on, leave'em on, & if you didn't have any on, don't turn any on til you breed your birds.)

Let me correct an error I made in the title of this post. the tip is for Final Fantasy VII (7), NOT FF VIII!

An addendum to the above tip: It's sometimes difficult to obtain a black chocobo of the gender you want. If simply entering, exiting, & re-entering the stables doesn't work, try entering the stable and feeding any chocobo an odd number of any greens. Best to use at least 23 greens. I was told the game uses an number system of up to 255 to determine the gender of a new chocobo, and it takes an act, such as re-entering the stables or feeding a cho a green to change the number set in the game. It does NOT change by merely re-setting the game. Since several numbers in a row may be for the same gender, if one action doesn't change the gender, it may take several. Might take several tries, but it DOES work! (I found that feeding any cho 23 of any green almost always works. You might also try that to obtain blue or green chos of opposite genders.)

Then, there are always the gender-choosing Game Shark codes in the Codes Files here!
