a question about Sega Genesis' Game Genie codes

Galoob codes only works on the hardrware? because when i tried to turn the codes for my games via Picodrive, they freeze. so i might should stick with other hackets codes? like Visitntx, Tony H, etc

The official Galoob codes should work just fine on emulators.
