Question regarding the exp codes for Lunar 2: Eternal Blue comeplete (NTSC) (PSX)

I use the code to get to 99 save then start it back up but, the game treats it like I never used the code in the first place is there some step I'm missing or am I not using it right?

you need go to in-battle to make changes

lee4 Does Not Accept Codes Requests !
When lee4 asks a question it does not mean lee4 will look at your game
