  • [SEGA Gen/MD] Fantasia (Request)

    This game was rushed and released unfinished. The game has nice graphics, but the controls SUCKS!

    From what i see, this game could be enjoayable if someone could fix the walk, jump and turn slow and delayed movements. Increasing the acceleration, character speed and reducing the laggy movements.

    Heres a video that i show how "hard" are the controls:



    Fun fact: Even the Producer assume that the game was released still unplayable:

    "We also did Disney licenses. That is, we had a contract with Disney. A game that we did for them…one of the very first games we did was Fantasia. That game nearly cost us dearly; there was so much pressure on me and on the team, that unfortunately I made the call to release it even though the gameplay wasn’t ready. I truly wish I hadn’t, but sometimes you have to make those decisions. You need games in the pipeline, especially big licenses, but the game was just simply unplayable." -Ken Balthaser

        I've played games like that. When you're younger and can't afford lots of games you gotta play what you got. Can't just drop it and dl another back then.

          1) I might be able to fix the slow acceleration from a standing start. Is that one of your complaints with the controls?

          2) Do you want the character to have a higher top speed when walking?

          3) What is your exact complaint with the jumping?

          Keep in mind that a whole crew of professionals were working on the game. I'm sure that if it was relatively easy to have fixed the problems, they would have. I will see what I can do, but no promises.

            I remember that you did a great improvement over the controls of Megaman Wily Wars to remove the delay before start walking and increasing the shoot speed.

            1=yep. increasing the acceleration value to the top speed
            2=yep. increase the top speed value too
            3=when you colide with the ground/platforms after a jump, theres a BIG delay to start walking again. This easily make you vulnerable and without reaction if an enemie is close to you
            look:


            -theres a BIG delay when you are walking to the right and changes to the left direction and vice versa. This makes you vulnerable too
            -when you get a hit, your character start to blink but less than 0.5 second you are recovered. If possible, increase the blink 2 seconds like in Castle of Illusion, World of Illusion, any other good platformer...
            look:


            if possible, make the jump attack active. The jump attack (JUMP+DOWN) to kill enemies is not intuitive like Castle of Illusion since theres no diferent animation to normal jump to jump attack (like in Castle of Illusion)

              Test these out and see if you like them. These only work when walking Right, but will add codes for Left once we figure out if these are okay.

              REXT-A6YA
              accelerate/walk faster (Right only).


              JNXT-BEYA
              accelerate/walk much faster (Right only).

              Don't use both codes above at the same time (they both modify the same address but with different instructions).

              -------------

              Once you pick which of the 2 codes above you like best, here's another code you can try. You can use it by itself, or with one of the codes above. It's hard to tell if using the codes together makes a difference.

              CEWT-BJXE
              Walk/accelerate faster with faster leg movement (Right only).

              The faster leg movement might make it look better or worse. You can decide which you like better.

              EDIT: I can make any of these codes so that you will walk even faster if you want.

              EDIT2: Only added the "CEWT-BJXE" code to the db (it worked the best).

                      Jump with this code can reach longer distances, you can move in the air better and the fall is faster too

                        With these 2 codes, the player can moves faster and is easier to control the jump.
                        Here's a video that show the big difference:



                        The game still has:
                        -animation delay to change your direction
                        -animation delay after you land on the ground/platform
                        -animation delay to jump
                        -as you can see in the video, the game has as extremely low time of invincibility after you get a hit. You could extend this invicibility time to 2 seconds at least?
