  • PS2 cheat systems, on a PS2, with PSX games...?

I've heard you can't use a PS2 cheat system, such as ARMax, GS2, or CB2, with a PSX game, but never really looked into it...if this is true, I'd assume it'd be because the PS2 uses an entirely separate processor for PSX games (the original PSX CPU is now just the I/O processor of the PS2). Thus, PS2 cheat systems wouldn't be designed to affect the PS2's IOP directly, and wouldn't be able to affect the memory properly.

In fact...now that I've thought about it, I guess that's almost definitely true, heh.

Makes sense. Wasn't there something weird like at least the AR had a cd for psx?

Hmm...could be, but I've never heard of it.

Heh, I happen to know for sure there is a datel action replay cheat device cd for psx, though I'm not sure how it's distributed.

Yeah...me too. I just don't know if they gave it out with a PS2 AR...otherwise, one can always use a PSX cheat system disc on a PS2, for PSX games, apparently. I guess I should play with some of these at some point.

There was an action replay released cd for the ps2 and psx that could be used on either system but I have no idea of the gameshark.

That's interesting...did it work for PS2 games, or just PSX games on a PS2?

that never existed. You either A) Brought a GS CDX 3.5 or GS Lite to cheat on your PSX game on your PS2 cause those are the only 2 discs that the ps2 would read. and B) Ps2 Cheat Devices are for PS2, PSX/PSone devices are for PSX/PSone

So I was correct in my original assumption concerning processor individuality in cheat systems?

No, it might only have been out in Europe. If I recall, it was a "bonus" that came with the Action Replay, the original one, not AR Max. My point is correct, the cd could be used on either system. I would like to point at that the discs were different, one for ps2 games, one for ps1 games.

Ah. That would make us both correct, heh.

I've played with the AR cd a bit (it's actually for NTSC U/C), though I've no idea where the thing came from... Runs fine in emulators, unlike the code breaker psx cd, which totally fails in every emulator I've tried.

The interesting thing about the AR disc, is that it seems to have fairly complete GS code support. I don't know if it can handle the more uncommon Cx types though...

Wait a minute, that would still make a mess of games though. I thought codes were different in USA to Europe.

                            I removed your doublepost...

Anyway, AR isn't only in Europe, if that's what you meant.

Me double post? Sorry about that, I'll have a talk with my psp about it. But isn't the AR just a PAL version of the GS?
