  • [Request] Metroid II (GB) Codes

    Hey everyone, I'd like to request the following codes:
    -A code that makes the game think you've killed all metroids in an area when you enter it
    Done: OR a code that makes lava/acid not hurt you
    Done: Faster horizontal jump speed
    -Faster jump/fall speed (vertical speed)
    -Faster spider ball movement
    -Faster horizontal mid-air movement in ball form (so you can grab onto walls easier if falling from the ceiling in those large empty areas)
    Done: -A code that makes enemies always drop something (hp or ammo) when killed
    Done: -A code that removes the beeping sfx when low on health
    Done: -Somewhat faster bomb detonation time (not instant but like in the NES game or slightly faster)
    -Codes that make the final boss take fewer missile hits (~30 less) and more bomb hits (~30 more) to kill (it's currently too easy with bombs and very drawn out with missiles only)

    These were the ones I was willing to do:
    010089D0

    With this all the lava has been drained and you don't even have to kill the metroids. So, they will still appear and you can kill them if you want, but you don't have to.
    However, remember that once you defeat all Metroids, the game throws 9 new ones to defeat. It's possible that even isn't triggered if you don't defeat the initial 39 Metroids.

    Bomb Time Modifier
    01??31DD

    This this code you can control the amount of time the bombs will take to detonate. Set to 01 for instant explosion.

    This code controls the metroid counter, but it really doesn't do anything. You can set the value to zero but the metroids will still appear and the lava will not be drained.

      Excellent, thanks. I'll test the lava one on a later save I have. I suppose the game isn't that suited to sequence breaking, not being very interconnected, but it's nice to have the option.

      Edit: I can confirm that the lava code won't work if you load a save (not save state) in Area 6, so I guess you need to play from the beginning. I recently beat the game but will try it at some point.

        Try increasing or decreasing the address to see if that helps:
        010089D0

        For example, try 01008AD0, 01008BD0 or 010087D0, 010088D0.

        If there's an address that controls the lava in that last stage, then the address is probably close or right next to the one I found.

            I haven't had time to make anything more useful than these two codes. I'll look into some more jump codes and maybe throw in a music modifier somewhere but I don't feel like making any other codes for this game at this time due to so many other projects. I hope these are helpful.

                    Instant explosion (01) works, but higher values cause the first bomb to never detonate and the next ones to work as before. Are there only certain values that work and which ones if that's the case?

                    None of those work for area 3 (16 left) or area 6 (12 left), but I'll try more values later.

                    Edit: I tried going to area 10 (final area) with infinite life without killing more metroids after 11 were left and there's a barrier at the entrance. Maybe if you kill all metroid in 9 though.

                        Ok I guess each bomb has its own address, so just increase or decrease the address to see if you can control the other bombs.
                        As for the detonation time, I know 0 is infinite and the bomb never explodes. 02 should increase the time. If that doesn't work, try other values, like 11, 21, 99, etc.

                          Thanks nensondubois, it works great. I'm pretty happy with that (halved) as while it makes it possible to button mash to bomb jump, it's still more efficient to try and time it right.

                          ReyVGM: Unfortunately anything I try above 01 just makes the first one not explode and the others are unaffected. Maybe it's just a yes/no toggle you found? Not that I know what I'm talking about.

                          Heh, just discovered something weird about the lava code (010089D0); if you move into an ammo refill station, the credits appear!

                            As promised. I couldn't do much of anything on count of my computer frying a few days ago. Yeeeeep. I still have everything on the external but I need to spend time getting the OS and everything recovered.

                            I don't recognise 08 or 09 anywhere in the game but it has been years. The other values are the obnoxious beeping areas that could have been music.
