  • codes that don't work?

I noticed that some Snes codes for Street fighter II turbo were replaced , however I have found that many codes hacked on emulators do not work on the actual hardware and vice versu. Are we sure that those codes do not work?
    Here is an example:
BlackGoddess tried the actual code for super mario world 2
star timer does not decrease when hit
    00E310AD
but it did not work on an emulator so she hacked this code
    7E039101
    7E039200
which was posted at this site.

Hmm...you mean GameGenie codes not working for emulators? I've never heard of that, but these were PAR, whch couldn't be used on an SNES, unless one had an incredibly rare SNES PAR, which I highly doubt.

The codes I removed affected the health meter, but didn't actually give you infinite health. The one I hacked wasn't much better, as it screws you when you reach one of the challenge levels (bricks, car, etc)...but at least it's functional rather than just aesthetic. I suppose I should hack an "untouchable" code as well...

I have a SNES PAR, & I've found that the main prob with getting codes made with it to work on ZSNES is that the ROMs I use in the emu are different from those in my actual game carts, which are mostly first editions.

However, I have a Super Metroid cart that was made about 2 years from the game's release for sale, & the codes I made from it work fine on ZSNES.

Usually, I simply make codes with ZSNES to use with it, since it's not that hard for an old bastard like me to do. I'm wondering how many hours I spent making codes, one at a time, with my real SNES/PAR & Gen/PAR, with no game savers.

In the case of Genesis codes that don't work, it's often because the real PAR usually makes 2-bit codes(a 4-digit value) while emus generally make 1-bit codes(2-digit values). In the case of the Swd. of Vermilion codes I just made, I simply used the 2-bit codes made with the PAR , but I had to convert the 2-bit "Perm. Inaudios" code to 1-bit. I am assuming my cart & emu ROM were identical. All the addresses were the same.

If you wish, I can make an updated list of codes for Sword Of Vermilion, in the proper order, with all the duds & duplicates weeded out, that you could replace the whole current list of codes. It would be no trouble for me at all, if ya wanna simply delete the current list & replace it with a new one that I know works with Gens & Fusion, & should easily convert to work with a real PAR. However, if it's too much trouble, we can leave it as is.

Our strike is over, & I'm back to work. And I'm now working on hacking codes for "Beyond Oasis", a game which I couldn't get to work with the real PAR. But I'm not gonna prematurely post what I've found until I'm satisfied that they're glitch-free, and what quirks they have.

This is a hint to all who hack codes with any emu...USE THAT GAME SAVER! While working on some difficult-to-hack games, I've sometimes had four games saved at once. It makes it SO much easier to switch and compare reference points!

Yes, savestate is wonderful for emu hacking.

So where did you get your PARs from, and when? Are you in the US?

          Heheheh...

"unless one had an incredibly rare SNES PAR, which I highly doubt"

          You got me there!
I do NOT have an incredibly rare SNES Pro-action replay.
          HOWEVER,
I do have an even much more rare SNES Pro-action replay 2 (the one that has code hacking utills built in)

Oh yeah, got it cheap off e-bay .
and I am in the U.S.

BTW, anybody got a Even rarer Pro-action replay 3 (only for European use)

I got'em perhaps 20 years ago through the Tommo Co. They useta run ads in many VG mags. Many people didn't actually know what a PAR could do, & never got past game Genies.

BTW, I have GGs for Gen & SNES, as well as 4 0f them for NES.(Yes, they can all be fitted together to run a buncha codes!) However, I couldn't get a PAR for NES; in fact I didn't even know they'd made one till years later.

            And I'm in Ohio...strictly American.

Damn...I'm really jealous. I haven't searched intensively, but my average-depth searches never found a hardware PAR...let alone a PAR2/3...could you take a pic?
