I tried your modified GG code for NES Super C, "Start w/Super Fireball Gun" and it didn't work on either FCEU 0.98 or FCEUX 2.2. I didn't try it on any other emu, as the FCEUs are generally the only ones I use.
However, the FCEU code 00B8: 005 will let you atart with and keep the SF gun, while 00B8: 006 will give you a short-range fireball "buzz-gun". (Any higher value will crash the game.)
Just thought I'd pass that info on...
