  • Question about GameShark codes to contribute to the site

Greetings fellow gamers and hackers, recently I found some codes and I would like to share them with you but I want to do things the right way.

First of all lets suppose I have this code: 8000XXYY ????, I found some cool effects by changing the numbers in XXYY, is this considered changing the address? I assume when you say you can't post codes by just changing the value you mean the numbers in ????

Second, If I'm allowed to post these codes where should I put them, retro hacking, hacker threads or somewhere else?

Third, If you think these codes are cool enough will the administrators post them in the main page? The codes there helped me a lot and I want everyone to enjoy the ones I found.

Lastly, the codes I keep talking about are for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time to play dungeons from the beginning at any time you want and to alter events that happen once during the game like opening the Door of Time, have anyone ever posted codes like these?

I hope you can help me.

You are correct. The N64 GameShark RAM writes are formatted CTAAAAAA VVVV, where CT is the code type, AAAAAA is the address and VVVV is the value.

I found some cool effects by changing the numbers in XXYY, is this considered changing the address?
Randomly changing the data is generally frowned upon since it demonstrates ignorance to hacking codes properly. We'll add your codes if they enhance the user's game play or if they really are "cool," but please refrain from posting codes like, "The Screen Turns [insert color here] when [insert action here]."

Second, If I'm allowed to post these codes where should I put them, retro hacking, hacker threads or somewhere else?
It's an old title so Retro Hacking is fine. However, if you plan on contributing a lot of codes for various games, I suggest opening a thread in the Hackers Threads section.

Third, If you think these codes are cool enough will the administrators post them in the main page? The codes there helped me a lot and I want everyone to enjoy the ones I found.
    Yeah, we'll add them.

Lastly, the codes I keep talking about are for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time to play dungeons from the beginning at any time you want and to alter events that happen once during the game like opening the Door of Time, have anyone ever posted codes like these?

please refrain from posting codes like, "The Screen Turns [insert color here] when [insert action here]."
Would this be an acceptable format then?

      Emulator: Project 64 Version 1.6
Game: The Legend of Zelda:Ocarina of Time (U) (V1.0)

      Play Dungeons Again

      Inside the Deku Tree

      CTAAAAAA VVVV
      CTAABBBB VVVV
      CTAACCCC VVVV

      Forest Temple

      CTAADDDD VVVV
      CTAAEEEE VVVV
      CTAAFFFF VVVV

      Events Modifier

      CTAAXXXX VVVV
      CTAAYYYY VVVV
      CTAAZZZZ VVVV

Note: <= here I might add some explanations or advices for a more enjoyable experience using the code.

      Try looking here to confirm
I checked it out and it appears that the codes I have are not there, right now I'm working on the details, once I finish I'll post them on Retro Hacking right away.

      Thanks for your reply.
