  • Flashing GSPro Questions

I have a GSPro and currently have 3.2 bios however I want to flash caetla bios on it.
I can't use the caetla flashing tools cause I use a regular printer port not one of those comm links.

So I wanted to know if you could use the GS utilities to flash caetla on to it or if there was some other program I could use.

    Re: Flashing GSPro Questions

The only way of doing that I know of requires a playstation with a mod chip to load a cd that will reflash the GS. I don't recomend using a caetla on a gspro anyway. The thing about it, is that you might be able to use caetla codes and some other built in stuff, but that would be it. Unless you've got an old GS/AR/good clone of those and a comms link, most of the functionality of the caetla is unusable. The next best thing to that, is an xploder/xplorer cart. You can leave it as is and have a working breakpointing system when connected to a computer, or you can reflash it with a caetla, and use most of the general caetla stuff with it. Of course, being that it's running through a printer port you can't use PSDebug.

If you're still wanting to do this... I have to point out that the newest few versions of Caetla have some rather nasty problems, mostly preventing you from using codes without the nonexistant memory card file creator.

      Re: Flashing GSPro Questions

Well thats interesting information. I actually have a second gameshark but I don't feel like flashing that its a back up in case something happens to my GSPro. Plus I really don't want to have to buy a comms link thats why I asked about other ways of flashing in the first place.
I guess that when it comes down to it I don't really need to flash since I won't be able to use most of its functions anyway.

      Thanks for the info.

Yeah, is there any way to use breakpoints without getting a pc card on the actual hardware? (psx emulators ar not working well for me).

The only way is to get an xploder cart and use xlink95 on your computer. You'd need the same cable for connecting a gspro to a computer though...

              Re: Flashing GSPro Questions

Xploder is the north american version, and I believe xplorer is the PAL one. Something to keep in mind if you're looking for one is that the Code Breaker cartridge is in fact a renamed xploder, and has exactly the same functionality (and can be turned into an xploder by reflashing it).

                  Re: Flashing GSPro Questions

Any, but you'll probably need to reflash it no matter what version you've got to be certain. Of course, if it doesn't have the 25 pin port on it, then it'd be of no use. I'm pretty sure all of them have it...

(In case anybody cares... The upgrade files and at least one version of xlink95 happen to be up somewhere on this site, but slightly hidden...)
