  • Perhaps we should start group hacking Der Langrisser...

As the title semi-implies, I was thinking we should gang-bang this apparent virgin of being hacked...for those of you who haven't heard of Der Langrisser, it's an awesome SNES game for which I wrote a review some time ago here - http://www.thegshi.org/?s=reviews&id=1. And because I know it may be a bit difficult to track down, I'm hosting a copy on our server, here - http://www.thegshi.org/downloads/Der...slation%5D.smc.

Note - Large quantities of credit go to the Light Path translation done by No Life, without which this potential group hack would be possible, but more of a hassle, and plus I probably never would have played the game and become so enthralled by it...

After a urine break, I guess I'll start by hacking a few simple things...

Well, here is a translation of it that you may be needing. It isn't complete . It works for 1.1 version.

      http://www.romhacking.net/trans/309/

To make the patch work you should make a savestate right after the title screen, then after that patch the rom. And never return to the title screen.

Oya, I should mention we do have some GG codes for the game on the site.

The ROM I'm using I patched with the translation version a couple updates after the one you pointed to...it works fine before and after the title screen. Thx, though...and I shall have to see what we have for it in GG form...

Edit: Here's what we have in GG form, a la Peter X...

Slot 1 Character Level Up [Elwin]
        B484-FEE6
        Slot 1 Character Class [Elwin]
        ??8D-FA76
For these codes, the first two digits can determine class.
        Slot 2 Character Level Up
        B486-FEE6
        S|ot 2 Character C|ass
        ??81-FA76
        Slot 3 Character level up
        B483-FEE6
        S|ot 3 Character C|ass
        ??8A-FE56
        Slot 4 Character Level Up
        B480-9EE6
        Slot 4 Character Class
        ??84-9A76
        S|ot 5 Character Leve| Up
        B48C-9EE6
        Slot 5 Character Class
        ??86-9A76
        Unlimited Money
        EEF2-FE58
        EEF2-FE88
When activating Quick Leve| Ups, you wi|| automatica||y keep gaining |eve|s unti| you reach your max |eve|, but if you want to start back over again, change that characters c|ass to the c|ass he starts with, this way, you can get to EVERY c|ass that person is ab|e to access and HIRE as many different units as possib|e than you can get than going through the origina| way.
        __________________________________________________ _

Though it's difficult to see why one would want codes in GG format rather than simply in that of PAR...unless you owned a Super Famicom and the Jap version of this game...or had an old cart flasher from Lik Sang, and wanted to use GG codes with it...

Anyway, on with the show...I'll see what else is worth hacking for this unsung hero of VG sweetness...

          Slot 1 (Elwin) Weapon mod - 7EB009 ??
          Slot 1 (Elwin) Armor mod - 7EB00A ??

Note: I'm leaving the values for later, as I don't want to spoil it for myself...I haven't seen them all, or their stats, heh. If someone else wants to play with them, that's fine, but if not, I'll get them later.

Something to do with the weapons you have in your inventory - 7E1CE3 ??

The value 09 gave me three Langrissers...w00t! Heh. 07 gave me some kind of sweet Lizard Slayer thing...x3, of course.

              Slot 1 (Elwin) Health - 7EB003 ??

Note: This determines what your health is out of direct combat, and at the beginning of a fight. I haven't been able to test whether or not you'd die if you were completely beaten from 10 to 0...

Update: I tested it, and heh...you die in the battle, but upon returning to the battle map, you're still at whatever health you set yourself to, and alive and well. 0A is max, by the way...though you can use FF if you'd like a little more power in your attack/defense, don't want to see your character die in battle, and don't mind the weird graphics in place of your usual health number...

Heh, this might be worth looking at, even though it's only an announcement: http://www.cinnamonpirate.com/blog/309

Ugh, seems the snes9x debugger is really unstable with wine. It just sits there when you try opening the search window. I'm sure I'll figure something out.

Yeah, I read that already. Hopefully something complete will come of it.

Re: Perhaps we should start group hacking Der Langrisser...

Felt like playing this, so here's some codes and info.

To start the game with a patched rom:
                      1. Patch a version 1.1 ROM.
                      2. Wait until the screen says 'Press Start' before you press start.

Control Any Units(Guest/Enemy units included, meaning you can use up their turn in the battle before they get it...potentially to attack other enemy units. You or the enemy gets EXP for finishing someone off, so only use enemy vs enemy combat to soften up opponents for your troops. Don't try to control non-fighter troops, like civilians, or it'll freeze up when they can't attack)
                      6D60-6462
                      4260-64A2

Anyone Can Attack Any Square Anywheres On The Map(Enemy won't do this without your orders. You don't need to defend yourself if they're more than a square away. Don't attack empty squares, as that results in a buggy, but not noticably harmful, battle)
                      6D3C-04AD
                      F43C-07DD

Anyone Can Use Magic On Anyone On The Map(This is helpful for leaving your people somewheres, but casting stuff like Attack1/Attack2 on other people on the map. Doesn't seem to work when you make an enemy casts helpful spells on your party. It's only practical use with enemies is to make them waste spells and MP, and use up their turn doing so)
                      DD38-AF6D
                      6D38-A4AD

Infinite Movement(Try to move somewheres out-of-bounds, and you can. Enemies won't do this without your orders)
                      6D27-040F

                      Max. Gold After Every Battle
                      DD3B-A4D5

High Soldier Stats After Battle(This makes each point worth a level, and the maximum level is 8, so it won't take nearly as long as 16 points per level. It even makes existing points count towards the level)
                      DFE8-A7A0
                      DFE2-AF00

Fight During Your Turn to Fully Level Up Friendlys, Followed By Enemies(If you turn it off at the last level 10 of the last main character on your list, or turn it on as you're defeating the final enemy, then you should be able to choose all of your classes while the code is on, for every character. Once you start leveling up a character, they won't stop until they reach the next class, even if the code it turned off, which means using save-states as you read the level 10 levelup text could help prevent enemies from recieving up to 9 levels)
                      6DAE-A4D1

Enable All Magic(Won't give the 'Magic' option to troops, but troops with the option will have all magic. Only given to you, not the enemy, unless you choose the magic for them):
                      DD6A-A403
                      DDBF-6FDA

'Valkyrie' Summon On Magic List, if using 'Enable All Magic' code(This lets you summon a weak monster with the magic option. Making a summoned monster cast the spell will modify that monster):
                      F8B7-6FDA

Enable 'Magic' Option For All Troops(They'll have no magic on the list, and no MP, but other codes I've made can bypass both issues. Don't try to use their magic unless you've populated their list with magic using codes, or the game will crash)
                      DD6C-A403

Enable All Summons(Won't give the 'Summon' option to troops. Only works for you, not the enemy, unless you choose the summon for them):
                      6D6E-A403
                      DDB8-A4D2
                      DBBA-A4A2

MP Not Needed for Magic(Only for you, not the enemy)
                      DDB2-A7DA

MP Not Needed for Summons(Only for you, not the enemy)
                      DDBC-0D03

Have Much Better Selection Of Troops('Aniki', the last on the list, is probably the best, with high attack power, and a single attack action worth 10 hits. Modify the value of the first code to view other monsters, but be aware that the on-screen statistics start lying to you at some point near the final monsters):
                      CB84-07D2
                      6D84-0DA2
                      FE80-A7D2

Title Screen Fix For Patched Versions(Just 'cause. Lets you press start and get to the title screen):
                      0FE5-6DBA
                      C1E5-6D2A
                      DDE5-6FFA

+ a supplimental IPS patch because it was simple.

                      Edit:
modified the original IPS patch to include the fix. Simplifies matters slightly.
