  • Dragonheart Sega Saturn ( NTSC-U/C) Cheats don't work(?)

    Hi,

I'm having some trouble with Dragonhearts' (Sega Saturn) cheats.
    Specs:
    - NTSC-J Sega Saturn white edition console.
    - cheating device: Action Replay
    - game: Dragonheart US NTSC-U/C version (longbox white label)

None of the cheats seem to work with the game, it strangely doesn't even accept the master code listed in your database. But this isn't a problem, as the PAR automatically gives you the correct code on the game.
    It's exactly the same only 1 digit differs, it's F6000914 C305 instead of F6000924 C305.
The game itself works flawlessly, but it doesn't accept any cheats(?) For example invincibility cheats render the game unplayable, causing horrible slowdown. Others like Maxed Armor just don't have any effect at all, and the game plays like normal.
I don't think that this has anything to do with the cheating device or the console I'm using. As I didn't have any problems with US games before like Three Dirty Dwarves, Shinobi Legions, Sonic 3D, Astal, etc. All of them play perfectly with cheats. I guess there are 2 North American versions of Dragonheart out there, one accepts the cheats and another one needs a different set of cheat codes. (I think?)

Does anyone know what this could be?

I can't help you with the code issue, but try these button cheats, and see if they work for the Saturn version:
    Code:
    http://www.gamefaqs.com/pc/197157-dragonheart-fire-and-steel/cheats
I found out that they work for the PlayStation version, too. I initially found the Level Select code for the PS1 version and checked to see if it was found already. When I saw it was, I tested the others, and was a happy slayer afterwards.

I tried looking at this game in all emulators available and they all have issues with Characters moving and then the game lags to a stand still while other emulators it crashes right after the main menu so I can't offer much help either.

You can try the latest SSF beta or Yabause from SVN.

SSF (the main page seems to have been down for a while):
        Code:
        http://www.geocities.jp/mj3kj8o5/ssf/index.html
Yabause (they frown upon EmuCR builds :P):
        Code:
        http://www.emucr.com/2014/07/yabause-svn-r3250.html

I tried the latest Yabause SVN build and it has the same issue of characters freezing in animation (mess and SSF too). I'm not sure the newest SSF will fair any better since the 2 versions I tend to use had the same issues, hell I even tried different copies of the game from different sources and same issue with all.

Ah, OK. You never know. It could be an option or two causing it to act like that. Regression testing is fun to try, too. Try some of the older Saturn emu's and see what happens.

Thanks to both of you, at least the maxed health/stamina cheat works with the Saturn edition. I'm happy with it, this is all I need
