  • Sony Files Lawsuit Against PS3 Hacker GeoHot

Posted by timothy on Wednesday January 12, 07:59 A.M.

George Hotz, or, as he is known on the internet, GeoHot, has been served court papers. Shorty after Team fail0verflow discovered faults in the PS3's TPM's, Geohot and others figured out how to extract the long sought after Holy Grail encryption keys.

Apparently Sony is not pleased, and is very keen on defending their poorly defended system with the US legal system. The basis is that GeoHot released programs that allow the signing of homebrew, which can be used to make PSN-like games out of normal PS3 games.

However, GeoHot has never supported any form of piracy, and in fact has taken a constant stance against it.

What board should this be posted in?

I thought Video Game Hacking, Development, and Discussion Current Generation Hacking was the right place to post this.

To me I think its crazy. I don't see why its such a big deal to hack your gaming system or your games. After all, he paid for them legally. As long as the hacking didn't cause any damage, interfere, or affect anyone else's ability to play a game or online, why should it matter? I also should add too, as long as he didn't pirate a game & try selling it.

To be honest, I wish I had the tools & know-how to effectively hack (or mod) my Xbox 360 & the games. Since I only have internet access at work, I wouldn't be able to use their computer to so some of the stuff that's required.
Hacking games is always fun because you don't know what's hidden in the game.
