  • Why did Wii hacking (almost) stop?

There are still new Wii games being made, so why did hacking for it stop, or at least slow down to a snails pace?
I've noticed that hacking for it was kind of given up once triple A titles stopped getting made for it. Why is that?

Also, what are the Wii hackers doing now? Going back to older consoles, or trying to hack the 3DS and Wii U?

I'm just curious, as none of the games made in the last two years seem to have any Gecko Codes. I get that the Wii U was released, but release titles suck and this is the first year that there are good, non-Mario games for the console.

I'd say the interest just faded out. The best games are hacked already and there aren't many people around there with a USB Gecko and hacking codes on the emulator isn't that comfortable. But at least there are a few people, including me who keep hacking Wii games

Marcan, Bushing, GMO and Jamesx057 are four good Wii hackers

It's just that GeckoCodes.org only gets updated a few times a month now and they're all for games released at least 3 years ago.

          That's sad...
The Japan-only games, or GC games slipped off the radar or something (for example Tales of Symphonia and the wealth of unused content it has). Then again, it's not like the DS or PS2 is any better, so this is kind of expected :/

But more stuff is being done with the DS. Looks at how many DS codes there are being made this week than PS2 and Wii!

Compare the tools available right now for each of those consoles.
I only bother with things that interest me.

Another problem is that debugging devices like USB Gecko aren't manufactured anymore, so that limits the chance of codes being published by new, unknown hackers. Of course, you still could use the emulator Dolphin for code hacking but you need a powerful PC and a wireless IR sensor + bluetooth stick for that

                    Couldn't a 360 Controller work?

For emulating the Wiimote, you need some sort of motion-sensing apparatus, hence the need for a bluetooth or other wireless device. However, most games allow for the use of at least the Classic Controller, so the 360 controller should work (yeah, take THAT, Nintendo! LOL).

In fact, you could probably even use a standard keyboard to play the Dolphin emulator (but I don't recommend it--you'd have to assign separate buttons for each of the various control schemes). Good luck with that one, though.

I still hack Wii games, I used to have gamefly til i cancelled it cause I would only get 2 or 3 games a month, and I usually hit up the Red Box, but they rarely get Wii games anymore. Newest I think they have is WWE 2K15. I currently just got the Wii-U and have been on the pokemon games lately. I have gone back to legacy consoles. Did a massive over haul on Turbo Grafx 16/CD and I plan on porting all the codes over to the Wii VC Games, and looking at systems that have NO CODES! But yes I still hack Wii games, I do have 2 USB Geckos (Yes, so selfish of me :P White and clear BLUE MMmmmm )

As Skiller said we do have other aspects in life that consume our time like for example I three jobs because the cost of living in Chicago is well damn expensive. I make about 700 every 2 weeks with my full time job, 900 rent (that is actually cheap in the city) , 150 Water (Budget Billing), 150 ComEd (Budget Billing), 400 Car Payment, 90 Car Insurance, 150 City Sticker x2 cars (every 6 months), 100 Plate Sticker x2 cars(every 6 months), 125 every check for health insurance, 90 for Comcast (Internet), and 180 for Cell Phone (each month), and these leaves me with about 200 left which is split between gas for 2 vehicles, and food, and it takes about 40-65 to fill each, leaving less than 90 for food for 2 weeks and I feed four people. So literally I have NOTHING for me. That is my full time job. I have 2 part time jobs stocking/replenish from 5am to 10am 3 times a week (I get about 200 after taxes), and then I am a bouncer 2 nights a week 10pm til 3/4am depending on the occasion or cubs season which is about 200 a night.

                        RL sucks!!!
