Although many retro gamers will fondly remember Final Fantasy's seventh outing as the greatest adventure ever, its predecessor is also often found topping RPG lists. As of today you can finally settle the score and decide which comes out top as Final Fantasy VI has been remastered for Android based devices.
Instead of doing a straight port of the Super Nintendo adventure or even relying on emulation, Square Enix have gone all out to ensure Final Fantasy VI has been given a complete refresh.
Similar to some of their other re-masterings, this all new release smooths out the once-pixelated visuals and introduces a more modern vector look. While this may be alarming to some retro gamers, you can relax knowing that Kazuko Shibuya, one of the original artists who worked on the title, was drafted in to ensure the RPG was done justice graphically.
But if that wasn't enough already, Square Enix have also included the additional content from the 2006 Game Boy Advance re-release, along with several adjustments to help redefine elements of the game for touchscreen controls.
The only downside to this new release is that it seems to be sporting one of Square Enix's infamous mobile application price-tags. Gamers wanting to get in on the action will need to set aside a massive $15.99, something which in Square Enix's defense, is a fraction of the cost of the Super Nintendo version.
