  • Coin Ops - Arcade ROM hacks

I finally managed to buy an Original Xbox with XBMC that had the Coin Ops emulator on it (plus NES, Sega Master System, & SNES emulators. The NES emulator is the only other one that has a cheat option on it. The SNES & Mater System ones don't). After tinkiering with it I managed to find a nifty cheat device built into it. I don't know what version of Coin Ops I have (its not Version 5) but, it works & there's tons of games already on it (There some it doesn't have that I'd like to have added).

I've been fiddling with two of my favorite arcade games of all time, Double Dragon 1 & Double Dragon 2. I didn't actually bring the codes that I found with me, but I did manage to remember one. While the address is exactly the same & has the same effect, each game has it's own glitches. I don't see a ROM hacks database, nor have I seen any hacks posted relating to this game on other sites, so here goes:

I'd still like to find a skin & clothing color modifier for both enemies & players (if they exist). I will have more hacks for these games coming soon.

    Double Dragon

    Player 1 Character Modifier
    03A3 ??
    Values
    00 - Billy Lee
    01 - Jimmy Lee
02 - Machine Gun Guy (glitchy)
03 - Jeff (Enemy similar to Bill & Jimmy Lee)
    04 - White Abobo
    05 - Black Abobo
    06 - White Bolo
    07 - Black Bolo
    08 - Williams
    09 - Rowper
0A - Linda (can also do back elbow attacks)
0B - Jimmy Lee? (looks just like the Lee Brothers with Red Hair & different colored attire)
    0C - Oil Drum
    0D - Box
    0E - Boulder
    0F - Knife
    10 - Bat
    11 - Dynamite
    12 - Whip

NOTE: This will change your appearance, but will cause your character to rapidly flicker back & forth between Billy Lee & The character you wish to become. Sometimes the flickering will stop when the same character comes out. To play as the Green Abobo / Bolo, use values 05 & 07, & when you invade the enemy's base, he will turn from black to green. Also some attacks & actions can't be used with other characters. You can still climb ladders & jump even as characters that don't normally do that. Surprisingly the Abobo & Bolo characters have jump animations. When you complete a stage, the character will change skin & clothing color automatically. If you play as the Machine Gun Guy or any of the weapons, you can't attack the enemies.

    Double Dragon 2: The Revenge

    Player 1 Character Modifier
    03A3 ??
    Values
    00 - Billy Lee
    01 - Jimmy Lee
02 - Machine Gun Guy (glitchy)
03 - Jeff (Enemy similar to Bill & Jimmy Lee)
    04 - Abobo
05 - Big Man Flat Top
    06 - Bolo
    07 - Karate Guy (glitchy)
    08 - Williams
    09 - Rowper
    0A - Linda
    0B - Masked Man (glitchy)
    0C - Wood Stump
    0D - Wooden Crate
    0E - Metal Ball
    0F - Knife
    10 - Shovel
    11 - Grenade
    12 - Chain Whip

NOTE: This will change your appearance, but will cause your character to rapidly flicker back & forth between Billy Lee & The character you wish to become. Sometimes the flickering will stop when the same character comes out. Also some attacks & actions can't be used with other characters. You can still climb ladders & jump even as characters that don't normally do that. When you complete a stage, the character's clothing color will change automatically. If you play as the Machine Gun Guy, Karate Guy, or any of the weapons, you can't attack the enemies. Masked Man can only do a jumping kick, while it hurts the enemy, it won't knock them down.

    Double Dragon

    Player 1 Attack Modifier
    03C0 ??
    Values
    00 - Punch
    01 - Kick
    02 - Jump Kick
03 - Ground Level Rear Jump Kick
    04 - Elbow
    07 - Uppercut
    08 - Roundhouse Kick
    0E - Front Bat Swing
    0F - Rear Bat Swing
    15 - Knee Smash

NOTE: These are some of the useful attacks. This will cause your character to do that attack no matter what button you press & even if you picked up a weapon. If you come to an area where you have to jump like in Mission 2 or 3, then disable the code until you pass that area. The knee smash doesn't do any damage, but you still can get points with every knee smash done. The front / rear bat swing will cause you to swing a baseball bat even if you don't have one.

    Double Dragon 2: The Revenge

    Player 1 Attack Modifier
    03C0 ??
    Values
    00 - Forward Attack (Punch)
01 - Rear Attack (Back Kick)
    02 - Jump Kick
03 - Ground Level Rear Jump Kick
    04 - Elbow
    06 - Front Jump Kick
    07 - Uppercut
08 - Jumping Rear Jump Kick
    0A - Front Knee
    0E - Front Swing Shovel
    0F - Rear Swing Shovel
    15 - Knee Smash

NOTE: These are some of the useful attacks. This will cause your character to do that attack no matter what button you press & even if you picked up a weapon. If you come to an area where you have to jump like in Mission 2, then disable the code until you pass that area. The knee smash doesn't do any damage, but you still can get points with every knee smash done. The front / rear shovel swing will cause you to swing a shovel even if you don't have one.

Player 1 Always has the Shovel
    03C3 02

Player 1 Can't pick up weapons
    03E4 01

Player 1 Can't climb any ladders
    03D9 00

Player 1 Jump distance / direction modifier
    03B1 ??
NOTE: If you have it set to jump too far ahead, you'll die. Also setting the value to FF causes the player to jump backwards.

    Player 1 Gravity modifier
    03B3 ??
    Values
    00 - Minimal gravity
    FF - Maximum gravity
NOTE: If the setting is is for the least amount of gravity, when you jump or get knocked down you'll float up in the air slowly & won't come back down for a while. When using the Maximum amount of gravity, you won't be able to jump off the ground.

I have hacked Xbox and the emulators I use have built in cheat searching and you can obviously use cheats, can't remember the name but all you have to do is FTP into your xbox and you can transfer files back and forth from your Xbox to your PC. Emucr should have any emulator for Xbox.

I'm not familiar with FTPs & still am not set up with a PC still. I only have access to the work computer. Some things never change I guess. At some point, I'm going to get with a few people that I know & see if I can get them to show me (step-by-step) on how to A. Download more games, B. Download additional emulators, & C. Replace the Hard Drive if needed (with more space). While there are Youtube videos that show how to download, they don't show you the set-up you need before you download.

I also still have my PS1, PS2, Game Boy (& Pocket Game Boy), Retron 3 with the NES, SNES, & Genesis games & the hacking devices for those systems. At some point, I'll dust those off & get back to those again before too long.

Get a laptop or a used PC then hit me up I will explain how to do an FTP into your xbox (pretty easy) then you can transfer games and emulators back and forth. I used to do alot of Xbox modchip installs and I had a special disc that was configured to install everything I needed including emulators I chose. Best bet would be to hit http://www.xboxscene.com/xbox-tutorials.php as that will have everything you need to know on setting things up on Xbox.

            Double Dragon 2

            Enemy Modifiers
            0461 ??
            04C4 ??
            0527 ??
            058A ??
            05ED ??
            0650 ??
            06B3 ??
            0716 ??
            Values
            00 - Billy Lee
            01 - Jimmy Lee
02 - Machine Gun Guy (glitchy)
03 - Jeff (Enemy similar to Bill & Jimmy Lee)
            04 - Abobo
05 - Big Man Flat Top
            06 - Bolo
            07 - Karate Guy (glitchy)
            08 - Williams
            09 - Rowper
            0A - Linda
            0B - Masked Man (glitchy)
NOTE: These codes will change the appearance of the enemy characters, but some of them will be glitchy. If you make Billy or Jimmy Lee as an enemy, when you beat them, you'll be stuck. Some of the enemy characters won't be able to properly attack. They also will retain their normal properties. For example: If you modify an enemy into the Masked Man, he'll blink like most enemies when he's beaten rather than standing up & growling.

The Xport emulators were stacked with features, I believe most of them (if not all) had a cheat search. I recall the days of getting them all from xbins (aka "the usual places"). I still have two modded xboxes, filled to the brim with emus and games. I would find an Xport emu for every system, except perhaps ZsnesXbox for SNES.

I'll try to answer any questions you have as well.

As far as switching hard drives go, you just need to find a large IDE HDD. The size the xbox will support depends on the bios being used, so make sure you don't get one too big if you're using an old bios. The xbox uses signing features so you have to unlock the old drive before you switch them, then locking the new one is necessary for some features. This can be done with EvoX, another HDD tool, and some modchips could do it too like the xecuter or the smartxx. So the proper order would be to back up your current files through ftp, unlock the old, switch, lock the new, run a dashboard from disc, format, and ftp over all of the backed-up files. Make sure you include a G: drive if your hard drive is really big, like 500GB.

Just about any dashboard will let you ftp into your xbox, xbmc being the most fully featured. You will need a PC for that.
Please put all complaints in writing and submit them here.

Found some player modifiers for the arcade version of Pitfighter. I like playing as the Masked Man or as Chainman Eddie.

                Pitfighter

                Player 1 Modifier
                00FFEACD ??

                Player 2 Modifier
                00FFEBCF ??

                Player 3 Modifier
                00FFECD1 ??

                Values:
                00 - Buzz
                01 - Ty
                02 - Kato
                03 - Chainman Eddie
                04 - Southside Jim
                05 - Masked Man
                06 - Mad Miles
                07 - CC Rider
                08 - Executioner
                09 - Heavy Metal
                0A - Angel
                0B - Chainman Eddie (Pallette Swap 1)
                0C - Southside Jim (Pallette Swap 1)
                0D - Masked Man (Pallette Swap 1)
                0E - Mad Miles (Pallette Swap 1)
                0F - CC Rider (Pallette Swap 1)
                10 - Executioner (Pallette Swap 1)
                11 - Heavy Metal
                12 - Angel
                13 - Chainman Eddie (Pallette Swap 2)
                14 - Southside Jim (Pallette Swap 2)
                15 - Masked Man (Pallette Swap 2)
                16 - Mad Miles (Pallette Swap 2)
                17 - CC Rider (Pallette Swap 2)
                18 - Executioner (Pallette Swap 2)
                19 - Heavy Metal
                1A - Angel
                1B - Chainman Eddie (Pallette Swap 3)
                1C - Southside Jim (Pallette Swap 3)
                1D - Masked Man (Pallette Swap 3)
                1E - Mad Miles (Pallette Swap 3)
                1F - CC Rider (Pallette Swap 3)
                20 - Executioner (Pallette Swap 3)
                21 - Heavy Metal
                22 - Angel
23 - Buzz (Grudge Match Clone)
24 - Ty (Grudge Match Clone)
25 - Kato (Grudge Match Clone)
26 - CAUSES THE GAME TO CRASH & RESET

NOTE: Some chracters don't have certain animations. For example: Chainman Eddie doesn't have a kick animation, so he can only stomp. When playing as anyone other than the three main characters, you lose the grudge match every time even if you win. Angel & Heavy Metal don't have pallette swaps, but appear at different values. If Player 2 or Player 3 takes control of them, they may look like a black sprite. The Masked Man pallette swaps don't look right on him. If you push right, right or left, left as Chainman, you'll lower your head & ram your opponent. Its a very powerful move.

Is MAME the same as Coin-Ops? Without an arcade game hacks database, it'll be hard to know what's been hacked & what hasn't.

                        Yes, both are Arcade Emulators
MAME (an acronym of Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator) is an emulator application designed to recreate the hardware of arcade game systems in software on modern personal computers (PC) and other platforms.

I don't see a ROM hacks database, nor have I seen any hacks posted relating to this game on other sites, so here goes:

I'd still like to find a skin & clothing color modifier for both enemies & players (if they exist). I will have more hacks for these games coming soon.
