I don't have the game you're hacking, but you can find a RAM address that is consistent throughout the game, whose value changes depending on what mode, level, or screen you're on. Then just use it as a check to force your ASM modification. Here is a semi-fake example with your ASM hack included:

    D002468A BEEF [FAKE ADDRESS]
    800ABB32 2400

    or using your real code

D00ABB32 3082 (less common value than comparing against 0001)
    800ABB32 2400

    D002468A BEEF [FAKE ADDRESS]
    800B841E 2400

    or using your real code

D00B841E 2443 (less common value than comparing against 0001)
    800B841E 2400

2400 is a short nop. It can replace those 00000000 nops (shorten your codes too). It should be applicable to the 'No Random Battle For Town' code as well, but I don't know what the ASM looks like to guarantee its effect.

Loox as if you're onto something, Hacc. I entered the codes using your info, and then played the game up to where Cloud & Aeris are preparing to enter Wall Mkt. to look for Tifa. I've had ONE random battle, while leaving the area after blowing up the first reactor...and it was against Shinra soldiers who ordinarily don't appear in that part of the game. However, I was unable to pick out a RAM addy as you mentioned. (Eyes getting crossed dueta staring at too many banks of 12-digit numbers!)

Only glitch so far is that most of the chars flop around like cheerleaders on LSD, or inflatables with the blower on medium, but otherwise it's played normally so far. (The floppy chars are funny!)

Hope to finish playing it all the way tomorrow, God be willing & the creek don't rise.

Well, I must say, Hacc & Asasega, you've come close to making "no random battle" codes for FF7 NTSC that work on emus. Using the codes made by Asasega & modified by Hacc's info, I've found they work everywhere except in caves or special locations such as the Shinra mansion in Nibelheim.

Again, the disjointed chars are hilarious!

But, try as I might, I cannot find one code or set of codes that work everywhere. However, my friend, whom I'm representing, is VERY grateful for your work so far, as I am.

replace the old no random in town with this, it will fix the characters and should fix caves and shinra manssion, at least did function for me
          d00abbd0 173c
          800abbd0 0000
          d00abbd2 a422
          800abbd2 0000

          hacc mode:
          d00abbd2 a422
          800abbd2 2400

          for world map
          d00b8428 627c
          800b8428 0000
          d00b842a ac23
          800b842a 0000

          hacc mode:
          d00b842a ac23
          800b842a 2400
please first try these new codes in this longer format Phil, after that you can try Hacc shorter version if i made them correctly

Well, loox as if ya done it, Asasega! Played a saved game from disc 2 all the way thru, & finished it on disc 3 with no probs. All the built-in battles worked perfectly, and the floppy chars R backta normal.

THANX! I was doing this at a friend's request who doesn't know too much about emus & is too bashful to post himself.

My goof was looking for only one universal code insteada a set of codes. I shoulda scoped out every location separately where random battles can occur. Guess I was fooled by the PAL format faving only one code to nix all random battles in all locations.

I would say it's safe for you to enter your codes into the database, even though I've only checked'em out on PCSXR. I plan to check'em out on EPSXE shortly. ( I have a real PS and Gameshark in a safe-deposit box, so I chan't check'em out on real hardware, but there's already a code that worx on it, that I've used before.)

Again, THANX, & gpood job! I know both you and Hacc prolly stared at banx of #s till yer eyes ached.

Played FF7 thru on both PCSXR & EPSXE 1.90 with no probs using your codes. Anyone using'em, remember to DC them when it comes time to get Yuffie in your available chars, and long enuff to fight one battle near the Gold Saucer desert to cause Ruby Weapon to appear.

Are you still taking requests? If so could I get a zero EXP code for Xenogears, and FFVII?

If the requests are open, could you make a code for Azure dreams to allow quick level up of the monster? If you need a save, here is one (well rather than one it's two PCSX-r memcards iirc it is compatible with epsxe)

And if you can/want one that mods the time of the relics on Crash Bandicoot 3, the one that I found crashes my PSP, it could be a problem of cwcheat tho...
