  • Toki issue

We have a small problem with a Genesis game called "Toki - Going Ape Spit". In the new code db, there is a section for the Japanese version of the game (called Ju Ju Densetsu), but there is no section for the USA version (Toki - Going Ape Spit). It looks like all the old codes for the USA version were incorrectly put in the Japanese section. I think the problem is with the Genesis ROM set used in the new db. When I look at a ROM site that uses the same ROM set as the new site uses, there is no USA version listed, and the Japanese version is incorrectly listed as "World".

Anyways, I would at least like to create a new section for "Toki - Going Ape Spit (U)", but wanted to make sure it's in fact not in the db (maybe I'm missing it).

Are you certain the roms are different? It's more likely they are the same, just released under different names in multiple regions. Thus the "World" tag, and thus the (JP)(en) tags from tosec (released in Japan in English). I don't think no-intro and tosec both got it wrong.

EDIT: I tested in MESS. They are the same rom. The title changes based on the region the system is. Test it out in your emulator by switching the region, if you can.

I agree with you on that, but we still have a problem. When people come here looking for codes for "Toki: Going Ape Spit", the correct codes are listed under Ju Ju Densetsu instead. How are they going find them? I didn't know until today that they're the same game. How about making a "Toki: Going Ape Spit" listing with a link to the Ju Ju Densetsu (REV A) section?

EDIT: I had downloaded a Toki: Going Ape Spit (UE) ROM and was making codes with it, but found out it wasn't the true "UE" ROM. Frustrating.

The Rev A section is for the Revision A rom.

The game can be found using search.

The tag should be JUE, which is Good's equivalent to no-intro's World tag. This is why we need to rely on rom hashes instead of filenames.

I still think having a "Toki: Going Ape spit" listing would be a good idea for people that would search for it by clicking on "T", but such is life.

One last thing about this game and then I'll leave it alone (I promise)... As you know, there are 2 different versions of the game in our db, and both versions have several codes. I tested 3 different Game Genie codes from the JuJu Densetsu ~ Toki - Going Ape Spit (World) section http://gamehacking.org/?game=15321 and none of them worked. The exact same codes are in the other section (Rev A) http://gamehacking.org/?game=15322 and they work fine on that version. It appears that many of the Game Genie codes are duplicated in both sections. I tested 2 Galoob codes (infinite time and 4 minutes to complete level), and one code from Visitntx. I'm pretty sure that the rest of the Galoob codes will only work on Rev A, although they're listed in both.

That's fine, you can move the codes to the appropriate place, and remove the duplicates.

Done. Moving and deleting multiple codes was a piece of cake. Nice job rimsky.
