  • Problem with GSHI Servers

In the last 1-2 weeks, I seen that too many times the GSHI site (both the database and the forum) is offline and then I can't open GSHI on the my computer. A problem with servers of the site?

I still have the problem longer 2 months ago. Before GSHI always itself opening on my computer with no issues. I now currently use Opera 11.01 and Mozilla Firefox 3.6.13 Browser and almost always every time when I try to open GSHI's site, it is offline and don't load, even if there's any other users that are online and logged in the GSHI's Forum. There is 90% probability, if the Opera Turbo in the my Opera browser is not enabled, I unable to access GSHI's site. Please anyone for help!

I've had some problems getting on at times. Sometimes the work computer will say "Did you mean GSHI.org?" after I typed in the correct address. Usually when I click the link, it will connect me. However, if I'm at the library using one of their computers I can't get on GSHI at all. It won't take me to the site & even if it did, it wouldn't let me access it. For whatever reason, the Mobile County Public Library will not allow access to forums or anything that's video game related. I think that's a stupid rule.
Hacking games is always fun because you don't know what's hidden in the game.

I also had problems reaching gshi.org from my work place. It turned out to be a DNS problem and I solved it by adding one of Google's DNS servers (8.8.8.8) to my configuration.

If you're in Windows, you could also do what I've done in the past, and manually add GSHI.org's IP address and a mapping if your choice to your HOSTS file, heh. I don't know if there's an adequate way to do the same in Linux, but I'd imagine there is.

And yeah, I always add Google's 8.8.8.8 DNS address as one of my DNS servers.
            I may be lazy, but I can...zzzZZZzzzZZZzzzZZZ...

Looks like I still need Google to resolve gshi.org at work:

              Code:
              $ dig gshi.org

              ; <<>> DiG 9.6.1-P2 <<>> gshi.org
              ;; global options: +cmd
              ;; Got answer:
;; ->>HEADER<<- opcode: QUERY, status: NOERROR, id: 9552
;; flags: qr rd ra; QUERY: 1, ANSWER: 1, AUTHORITY: 0, ADDITIONAL: 0

              ;; QUESTION SECTION:
              ;gshi.org. IN	A

              ;; ANSWER SECTION:
              gshi.org. 7958	IN	A	67.225.134.231

              ;; Query time: 28 msec
              ;; SERVER: 8.8.8.8#53(8.8.8.8)
              ;; WHEN: Tue Mar 1 15:14:32 2011
              ;; MSG SIZE rcvd: 42
On Linux you just need to add "67.225.134.231 gshi" to /etc/hosts to browse the board via http://gshi/vb/.

This DNS problem is rather obnoxious. I don't know how much of it might be the notoriously junk ISP servers and how much of it's the nameserver config. At least, it's been confirmed repeatedly to be merely DNS going wrong.

I don't know if it's of any help, but this DNS checker reports some warnings:
                  http://dnssy.com/report.php?q=gshi.org
