  • Proposal to allow more people to edit the wiki.... (rimsky82)

Since editing user permissions isn't working to allow new people to edit the wiki how about wiping the forum/wiki integration and allowing people to register to the wiki seperately. You could also maybe leave the current active users alone since they obviously can edit the wiki, but just wipe every user other than them. Then just allow new users to register and edit. You can add captchas or whatever to prevent spam too.

It would be nice to see some activity on the wiki other than dlevere. The wiki's never gonnna grow if you can't fix it rimsky.

Well one way to do it could be by filtering by user rep instead. Anyone who has less than 100 rep for example, denied. Anyone above it, allowed. That would easily stop new bots and they probably wouldn't stick around long enough to catch on to the rep idea to try to abuse it. New legit users might hang around for long enough as they gain rep and wind up asking about it.

There's been a problem merging forum and wiki accounts and very few people actually have permission to edit the wiki. The best solution is to split the database of users and allow people to register to the wiki seperately. Of course there can be captchas and all that stuff to cut down on the bots.

The original idea is to let any user edit the wiki. As far as rep goes, that integration would probably need developed into the vbwiki code.

The vbwiki code has not been updated in some time. I'm going to need to really dive in to see what's happening, afaik everything is set up correctly but I could be missing something.

I started a full-time job a few weeks ago and don't have much time to spend on it. Considering days off are few and far between, and I usually want to spend them watching baseball and playing with my kids, it might be a while.

I am aware of the problem and will work on it, just give me some time.

Edit: Anyone trying to edit the wiki since the last time I worked on it, make sure you have completely signed out of the site and back in before testing.
