I've never really looked into the ODE stuff before, but if you can find a PS3 that has firmware 3.55 or less, you can easily put a custom firmware on it. This past Tuesday I did this for a fat PS3 that was purchased by my step-brother for about $214.00 from ebay. I personally have a slim PS3 like in the above picture. There's many different choices of custom firmware, but I stick with Rebug.

I imagine that BD is short for Blu-ray drive, and Dos might be dual operating system.

Yep, as long as you look for a version 3.55 PS3 (or upgrade any lower firmware to 3.55) you can upgrade to a custom firmware no problem. If you want to play it safe, try to get a slim PS3. I believe they're less prone to develop the YLOD problem. Just google YLOD to read more about it. Here's an example video on how to fix the problem, but I've never known anyone to have that error: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uMG-6rbanlY

Yea as far as I know Sony fixed the problem by the time slims came out. Notice that YouTube videos on YLOD are showing the Fat model. The only thing you would be missing with getting a slim model instead of the fat is two less USB ports, no CF/SD/MS card reader, and no retail PS2 disc loading.

                  no CF/SD/MS card reader,
uh i can handle with this one:P
and no retail PS2 disc loading.
this tha lame damned!, no solution? like play usin emulator or somethin tricks beside usin optical disc?

also ive hear about slim model have good point, tha model consumed less electricy charge rather than tha fat, it is true?

Yes, it's still possible to load backup copies of PS2 disc's, but I have no experience with doing that (or PSP games) yet. The only types of backups I have played are PS1 and PS3.

um after thinkin over an month, ive deciced to loosen mi intention on, even tha price is so cheap( i can get tha console bettwen $40-70$<thafat model) but tha repaired may cost pretty suckin! $50+ for ylod(dependin on tha probs may even coused $100!) heh. , also tha slim models noy tha safetly enough, ive ask friends of mine who have slim model ylod 3times as well, i never seen sony did mistake since im big fans of sony, consider this is tha first failure for sony, so sorry sony, ill buy your product if tha priced droped at <=$50(for superb slim model), till then well so sorry
