  • Game Music Rips? Please help, please....

Errr... is there a program 'here' soemwhere, I believe there is/was that allows you to rip music from games? Also, 'then' can that music be saved as 'MP3' formats? and also burned to a CD?

I mean pretty much 'any game' but right now, I wish and eman Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross, and seeing as alot of us ahve these games (PSX format) I'd had to ask.

I seriously, would love, this music, please...please....please. and not wishing to be all 'illegal' and all, but I do not think it is 'bad' to rip a game CD you own and use the music yourself. I mean, well... I would 'buy' the game music CDs if I could find them in stock 'anywhere' in the world, so they cannot blame me for that, I already bought the game so there. I also could and would and so damn hard try to use Kazzaa and such, but getting a complete soundtrack of anything on there is well... near impossible these days.

Thus am asking please with good results, music ripping, a how too for those two games, and even if possible, pleas ebe possible, if the music is or will convert to MP3 for music CDs. (There are music tests on the games, both of them, so some hope there)

ummm otherwise, no one ehr4e has the MP3 music files in a zip file somewhere do they? I recall watnet has 'alot' of files on it...but not sure, I cannot remember if someone threw music somewhere (game music) or not... so... please to help?

Re: Game Music Rips? Please help, please....

It is possible to rip game music, but it's not easy, at least for the most part on psx games.
I don't think it's illegal, as it's not really too much different than just recording the music off the game onto a tape or something.

There's a huge collection of different game music rips here: www.zophar.net/music.html
Chrono Cross is in the Playstation section, but Chrono Trigger is in the SNES section. To play these, you'll need winamp, and a couple of plugins. With this all, it's possible to turn the music into mp3, but I don't remember how exactly to do it. SephiRon knows... But I haven't seen him around recently...

    The plugins are at www.zophar.net/winamp/
And the ones that I recomend getting for using psf and spc files are SNESAmp and Highly Experimental (I tried linking them directly, but that didn't work...).

And... If I remember correctly, www.emuparadise.org has a pretty large collection of game soundtrack mp3s.

There might be some game music around on watnet's ftp, but I think Ron might've removed it...

Sorry about that website. I didn't know it had gone bad like that.

I found a plugin that is good for this. It will turn most things that winamp can play into a more normal format file, such as .wav. Supposedly, it only works on winamp2 or 5 though... But if you're using either version, there's nothing to worry about.
        The plugin is here:
        http://home.hccnet.nl/th.v.d.gronde/dev/filewrite/
I can't remember exactly how to set it up, but there i a readme file for it. I know it involves having to go into the options on winamp and selecting this as the output plugin, but I can't remember exactly how to do that... I know it will work for converting PSF files to .wav, and will do it faster than playing them would be.

Yeah; once it's a WAV, you can just convert it to MP3 with Lame or whatever. I always played the SPC with a Winamp plugin, using playback option Filewriter, configured to output WAVs, then converted using CDEX or Right-Click MP3, but that's all personal preference. Filewriter comes with Winamp, so you can find it under Preferences somewhere; lemme know if you want to use this method and need a hand.
          I may be lazy, but I can...zzzZZZzzzZZZzzzZZZ...

Re: Game Music Rips? Please help, please....

ummm well that medthod is okay, any medthod is okay with me as long as I can convert the files to MP3 and/or wav files. (wav files are smaller? so maybe want those more so, as when you do burn a audio CD most of today's burners 'converts' MP3's to wav (has to with 'plder CD players) so wav is good, MP3 is also, just gotta and shall take what I can get really.

As far as needing a hand...err yep I sure do really, I been to the pages and such, and err well, I am still lost----really lost abit. As I am pretty 'not used to' non-MP3/Wav files... I mean basic thing I know of saving any type of file differnetly s the simple 'windows save way' that file, then 'save as' at the top of the window in windows, but for sure that does not work this way.... now if I could just learn err what to do and all that good stuff.

I think I can see (and then explain properly) how to use the plugins on monday, as I should have access to a computer then. It's too bad I can't do it sooner...

ummm...winamp already COMES with a diskwriter and an mp3writer plugin (diskwriter writes wavs). I'm assuming amy is playin psfs, so all you have to do is set the output plugin to the diskwriter, or the mp3 out plugin (sometimes it's not available WITH winamp, but can be easily downloaded) and play your music, at which point it will write it to a file. i've been turning psfs into mp3s for a while now, with that method. works for other wave based files winamp can play too, like nsf, spc, and modules (not midi though, since that's...err...midi based). i'm pretty big on ripping music from games, psx or pc, so i'm the man to ask
                hehe.

                that is all!

OH!!! don't forget when you're done converting, to set the output plugin back to waveOut, or directsound, or whatever one you normally use (usually it's waveOut).

Re: Game Music Rips? Please help, please....

i just read what amy said about wav versus mp3...wave files are HUGE, amy

they are about 10 times bigger than an mp3, depending on the bitrate and such. a cd burning program decompresses mp3s into wavs, cuz that's all that audio cd players know how to read. don't try to store your music collection in wav format, or you'll run out of space 10x faster

Game Music Rips? Please help, please....

Now, here is how to switch the output plugin (on winamp 5, as that's what's installed on here):

                          Start winamp...
                          Press Ctrl+P

Go down to Plug-ins -> Output
Select the 'Nullsoft Disk Writer plug-in'
                          Hit the Configure button

                          Choose an output directory
Make sure the Convert to format box is checked and it says
                          PCM
                          44.100 kHz, 16 Bit, Stereo

Close the configuration and options windows.

Make a playlist of whatever you want to turn into wav, hit play, and wait awhile (it'll probably try to go as fast as it can...)

Then, once you're done making wav files, and want to use winamp normally again, go back to the options -> plug-ins -> output place again, and select either the DirectSound or waveOut plugins, whichever you had selected before. But it probably won't make much difference if you don't get the one you were using before...

And, the reason why I say to use wav files, is because with the normal version of winamp 5, you can only make low quality mp3s with it... Unless you've gone and registered it to be the 'Pro' version...

Game Music Rips? Please help, please....

ummmm Okay well new issue (sorta?) Not really new, but I am wishing to try it now, as I have pretty much gottened all of the 'free web' music I can. Anyway not been to this topic in awhile, I am able to convert now so that is all ood. Thank You ll ain, bu the new issue (not really new, sorta talked about it before but now am wishing to try it...ehh yadda yadda, you know. :P )

Okay so now I am wishing to rip the PSX games I have (that I could not get or find otherwise.) I place a game into my PC disc drive and explore it, and find well... a few HUGE files. (well maybe not all that huge, bt om itdai p, and how I eat up HD space, anything * MBs is rather huge) Okay so anyway I get and see alot of STR files (Movie files, I know that a PSX PC Program plays them, I used to have it, lost it forgot it's name) and alot of XA files, these are the music, I do think? (Or rather as I rememebred from long ago when the whole save the PSX movie files was a huge thing going around, adta e rgamoulsave/play them.)

Anyway.... is there a way, rather a simple way to rip those files and such? make them into the ever popular now PSF files that winamp plays and will convert please?

(As always I'dexpc tistoic or other like it to grow, game music is and is becomming as always an exciting thing...err well with alot of us anyway. :P )

Also makes me wonder if it is possible to rip the Castlevania SOTN disc... that site had it's music files, BUT only had that one file you get when you place that game into a normal CD Player, that short song and the saying "I am only for a PSX system" yadda yadda..... so makes me wonder and indeed wish that music files are 'gatherible' from any and all PSX discs...somehoe anyway.

Also, last bit but small question on NSfle fm ta ite. (EMU site, umm sorry just cannot spell that word outright heh) anyway I downlaoded the NES files, and it seems strange, the NES files play in Winamp, but each folder after un-winwared has one file each (maybe a read me also at times) and that first file plays the first game song...but well.. where the others? I mean is it winamp needs another plug-in? or is there ways to 'seperate' these NES files? I was first thinking it was like a 'play list' that gets made after you burn a music CD...and while you 'save' that play list (in various ways) you can play the play list, and simply press 'foward skip' to go to next song. However foward skip seems ineffective on these NES files...so am wishing and wondering, please if there is any insight into those as well.

Okay I am done for now. :P umm also, if it looks anywhere like I mushed letters together, I am sorry and did not do not mena too, just that blahhh my speed is so slow sometimes and I tend to type on keyboard faster then it puts my letters down, and sometimes, ALOT of times, it skips my letters ALOT.... stupid memory, I do wonder why it always does that

For ripping str/xa, I'd recomend the program PSound...

                              http://snailrush.online.fr
It'll be under 'Soft' or something like that.
Admittedly I've never used it myself, but considering how good other programs from that site have been, it ought to be at least decent.

There's some other programs that might be useful (such as PSMPlay and PSXMC) here:
                              http://www.zophar.net/utilities/psxutil.html

Any of those three programs ought to be able to rip the xa music files out of SotN. But, only to wav/mp3... I remember it is possible for that music to be ripped into psf files, but nobody seems to want to do so, as it'd take up a lot of space. If I remember right, it'd be over 100 Mb...

As far as NSF files, I don't know a whole lot, but it seems to play different tracks within an nsf file, a plugin is needed.
The one here would seem to be a good one, maybe even the best one right now:

                              NotSoFatso v 0.851:
                              http://disch.zophar.net/notsofatso.php

And there seems to be something called NSF Track Ripper here:
                              http://www.zophar.net/utilities/rippers.html
