  • New Classic Gaming Publication In The Works

    By Cauterize

Should you feel the need for another regular publication on our gaming past, you're in luck! RETRO magazine has just landed on Kickstarter with the aim of providing classic gamers an all new angle on gaming in print. Although yet to be funded, this future read is already proving to be quite the asset to the community with countless iconic writers and gaming personalities joining the cause.

This ambitious project is from the brains behind the independent video game auction site GameGavel, Mike Kennedy. Aiming to raise $50,000 with a few weeks left, Kennedy is promising gamers an awful lot very early on.

Retronaut's Jeremy Parish and Wired's Chris Kohler are set to make prominent appearances within the publication's pages, along with the likes of Kat Bailey, Seanbaby and many other gaming celebrities. Furthermore, if the pitch is anything to go by, RETRO looks set to feature stunning design to compliment the content within.

    About RETRO Magazine

WELCOME TO RETRO: Do you long for the great video gaming magazines from back in the day? Magazines with some heart and soul, and not all the big media fluff? We thought so and that is why video game auction site GameGavel.com and the RetroGamingRoundup.com podcast are teaming up with some of the most popular and influential gaming journalists and personalities from the past three decades and introducing a new high quality, feature rich, video gaming magazine that will harken back to the amazing magazines from the 80's, 90's and early 2000's.

RETRO will be a magazine you will want to own and keep forever as part of your gaming collections. RETRO will be offered in BOTH digital and print editions and published bi-monthly starting January 2014. Backers will receive the Premier Issue this December! Each issue will be a minimum of 52-pages, utilize a maximum of 4-pages of ads and will feature high quality gloss print and thick stock cover. And ALL PRINT subscriptions will include the digital enhanced versions free!

WHY "RETRO"? Don't let the name RETRO fool you. It was meant to be a double entendre meaning we are bringing back a Retro style magazine with the heart and soul of past magazines AND will feature both Retro and current generation gaming content, news, exclusive interviews, reviews, top tens, guides, PC and a whole bunch more! RETRO will be feature driven with less emphasis on game previews and reviews.

4 pages of advertisements? It expects to fund itself on subscriptions alone? Dunno if that would work. If they could find retro related things to advertise I wouldn't mind more than 4 pages of advertisements. I kinda liked advertisements in old gaming magazines. I like seeing them for games I used to like whenever I look at magazine scans.

Is there any other retro gaming magazines that are printed and distributed in the US? This one sounds good but could be far off.

No clue on that one. I miss EGM, I liked the Hsu and Chan comic.

The first of several "Metal Gear Solid" parodies. Why does Chan get to be Snake, and not Hsu? He's taller, darn it.
