Is anyone knowledgeable with monitors?... Is that a decent monitor and deal? I only have a few days left in case I want to return it. So let me know what you think please.

I have a dual monitor setup of basically the same monitor, except mine are 23" (S231HL) and I've been pleased with them (although mine aren't HDMI).

I thought my Acer widescreen monitor was dying too because it would flicker a lot but it eventually stopped. Weird.

I do have a backup standard monitor (Compaq) though. Acer monitors perform like cheap hardware, and that's from my experience.

I still have a Dell CRT, works perfectly and the image is better than any LCD.

Only thing to look for is the Response Time, maybe read some reviews to make sure there isn't ghosting which is quite annoying.

A couple years back I purchased an Acer 21" LCD monitor with 1920x1080 native resolution for $155 at B&H Photo Video. The thing's worked perfectly the entire time. It's got great response time (hardly any ghosting) and decent color representation (slight banding is noticeable on large gradients, but it's not apparent most of the time) and the resolution + screen size is great for graphics work and for playing video games.

I'd say it's perfect for all games, but unfortunately I can't get 320x200 or 320x240 resolutions from it, so N64 emulation is less than optimal.

Anyway, Acer is a good brand, and if you like how your new monitor performs, then stick with it! Also, I've bought a number of things from B&H over the years, and they've always been good to me.

I did a decent amount of research and I read that Acer used to be a crappy brand... but over the last few years they have greatly improved. I even read somewhere that they now use Samsung monitors, not sure if that's true or not.

My monitor seems to have all the good stuff except it is not an IPS monitor and the response time is 6 ms, which isn't great but isn't terrible. I read response time is overrated anyway, unless the monitor has a really high response time like in the 10+ ms. I read/watched someone compare response time between a monitor with 2 ms vs 5/6 ms and it was barely noticeable to the human eye.

Everything else my monitor seems to have. It has all three connections (HDMI, DVI, VGA) and all three cables are included (which is uncommon as most other companies don't supply all three cables.) The brightness is 300 Nit as opposed to most other monitors of the same size which are 250 Nit. And it has a good contrast ratio of 100,000,000:1.

This was not my original plan. I originally was going to buy a 20" monitor for a too good to be true price of $65. But when I got to Best Buy, I realized that the monitor was a glossy display and not a matte. So I said f**k that, as I don't like glossy displays. So then I was going to get a 20" matte for about a $100. Then I was like, well... for just $40 more, I can get a 23". So that's what I originally bought... an Acer 23" for about $150. But when I tried to put the monitor on the stand, it wouldn't connect. The stand must have been defected. So I brought it back to get another one. While I was there, I thought hmmm, for another $70, I can get a monitor that's 4" larger, an Acer 27". So that's what I ultimately decided to go with. At first use, I was like whoooaa, this may be too big being hard on the eyes... but I quickly got used to it. And now I don't know how I ever got by all these years using a small 17" LCD. In my opinion, it's definitely worth it to upgrade to a large monitor... a 23" is a very nice size... that's what I'd recommend.

I like my monitor and the design/bezel looks good too...all black and it's very thin... it looked better than all the other monitors at Best Buy and it's lighter than all of the others too. My dad thought that was a bad thing at first until I explained that in this day and age, thin and light is better than thick and heavy, ie: cell phones. I like how I can sit all the way back in my chair at the most relaxed point, and still be able to read the screen... no more leaning forward to read text or anything like that. It's very relaxing. So overall, I'm happy with my purchase.

I think a 27 inch matte w/ HDMI for only $230 is a great deal. For that price, normally they would either be a glossy display or not have HDMI. So I was pretty surprised and happy about that.

I prefer Compaq even though Dell bought them out, Acer is Chinese to my knowledge so that could very well be the reason. However my Acer Aspire X1200 Desktop PC has never had any problems.

Didn't HP buyout Compaq years ago? and Acer bought out Gateway which also owned Emachines so they own both brands.
