A recent image that has been circulating the Internet (originating on the NeoGAF forum) has peaked my interest. It started rumors that Sega may be getting back into the console business.
The aforementioned image is subtle and doesn’t really give out information but is still incredibly interesting. The text above translates to “A new world of entertainment” and the date given just so happens to be during E3 week (although given that the image is in Japanese, this will most likely not happen “at” E3) .
This could be a mobile device, or something similar, or a complete hoax but still, I’m looking forward to seeing what comes of this. However Sega hasn’t been manufacturing consoles since the famous Dreamcast, and it is unlikely they feel ready to get back into this business.
Digging a bit deeper, we couldn’t find any relevant information regarding this on Japanese sites, and this is the only picture of this floating around the web. One would expect some sort of website, or official facebook page to go with the event…
What are your thoughts on this? Do you think that Sega could get back into the console business? If so, how would they compete against the next-gen consoles? Share your thoughts.
