  • Hey hackers and M.E.S.S users.

Can somebody teach me or tell me how to use this emulator?
I also want to play some roms with it and I cannot figure how to play them.
    Thank You.

EDIT: And I also want to know how to put cheat codes on it.

You may want to check out the User Interface:

You will need each system's BIOS files (if they are required for the given system) and you will also need to have all your ROMs named properly due to the software lists that MESS uses (Just like you must have your MAME ROMs named properly.) Once you fulfill those two requirements, it should be pretty self-explanatory when using the MESS user interface, rather than the command-line version. If you have anymore questions, please be specific when asking them so we can better assist you.

Ummm... can you provide me with some pictures as guides?
And I have almost all the bios files except the one for the ATARI 2600.
And the M.E.S.S emulator is much more complicated than M.A.M.E that is why I need more explanations and I searched all the damned internet and no good tutorial though.

Here is the MESS User's Manual: http://www.mess.org/mess/howto

It should tell you basically all you need to know.

First off get MESSUI since its alot easier to deal with and choose systems and games. Once you have the emulator up and running go to the system you want to play and right click and go to properties, there choose software aka roms directory and any other settings you want.

Helder I have entered on the emulator and next on the Option and next on the Directories And I choose on ROMs section the Atari 2600 roms path. And then I have waited for that blue band to go to 100% and then I do not get what to do.

You just said you didn't have the atari bios so that's probably why. Are you using MESSUI or MESS? After the bar fills blue just hit refresh (F5) and it should show the roms on the right hand side where it says software, this is for MESSUI NOT MESS.

I would recommend you use QMC2: http://qmc2.arcadehits.net/wordpress/ . Here are the intermediate releases: http://qmc2.arcadehits.net/Win32/ .It's one of the most recommended front ends for MESS (and MAME for that matter).

UME is good too: http://mamedev.emulab.it/haze/ .

Personally, I don't mess around with MESS. For the systems I play, there are better individual emulators available. But to each his own.

I downloaded the MESSUI emulator from he Mezmorize site and it is portable like no need to install or things like that just enter directly on it. Where do I need to put the Bios files to work?

It took me a while to figure that out, I was having problems running SNES in MESS.

In the directory that has mess.exe and messui.exe, make a folder named 'roms'.
Inside that folder put your BIOS, for example snes.zip.
Then I had to delete all files inside the 'ini' folder.

I should've known is the same thing with the MAME emulator because MESS is based of MAME.
