  • Working Designs closes....

    http://www.gamesarefun.com/news.php?newsid=5892

Rather bad news for me. Cause my name is based around one of their games, Lunar 2. I loved that game, and I loved what the company stood for. It was pretty cool how they took games that likely wouldn't be ported to US and did it. So it's gonna be bad for varieties sake. I'm not much for Goemon, but I imagine Bloodreign ain't gonna like that they shut down the Goemon port. I think that only one of his game made it to us so far, well, he might of been in that Konami Kart game for GBA.

That really sucks. What that kind of looks like, is that Sony axed the Goemon game, likely for some ridiculous reason (which they've done a number of times before)... It's entirely possible they were ready to publish the game before Sony denied it. This just goes to show that Sony is a bunch of bastards, despite being less so than their main competitor...

Yeah....that REALLY SUCKS...darn Working Designs was great as Hiro said at bringing over ALOT of games we mostly would never see otherwise in the US. Now that means no more as far as the Lunar story unless it was 'sold' like that Y's story and games license was.

Other then no more Lunar unless as I said (darn they just released a Lunar game on GBA too... and now no more) They also had alot of otehr great titles I 'heard' and read was going to make the leap to PS2 til I saw and read this, which now makes me dread those game's outcome.

The one I am and was interested in other then Lunar already on the PSX was a Saturn game named Dragon Force which 'was' said to be remade for the PS2, no date but well I guess now we know why, unless the rights are and were sold. Working Designs had otehr great 'older' titles as well they ahd all planned for remakes on the next gen systems, Magic Knight Rayearth and such, I know maybe these days not all that popular but back in the day it was right up there with Sailor Moon and other anime titles. So that title dead, or as fara s I know also is indeed dreadful and sad....

As it is indeed sad, as I was indeed look foward to ALOT of these odler games remade, but all in all, with the timming, It is ironic, and did not know for sure, but I can say I could see this comming, I mean as is, the PS2 is about dead, with the PS3 getting all the hype soon enough, the PS2 titles will soon enough within a year start to drop off, and the PS2 was always the target system (followed by XBox and GameCube ports) but with the death of the PS2 not all too far away, the company dying and not getting to the titles they wanted to is ironic, but otherwise, as seeing the PS2 is dying, something like this was bound to happen.

What really bothers me about this, is that it's sort of showing that the console companies are trying to kill 2D and stuff that isn't 100% mainstream... Especially for the new consoles (even though only the xbox 360 is out so far). Which is really not cool, considering with the modern consoles, including dreamcast, really bad ass 2D stuff can be done. And the smaller companies are getting wiped out because of how hard it is to make a game up to the standards when it has to work well in HD.

I agree with LMZ as well, just my small 2 cents but well I really wish the game companies would look around more and indeed notice that RETRO Games is pretty much where it is all going.

Not all that 'old' as in retro but still, The Capcom Collection Vol 1 (seems they were going to make a Vol 2 but that seems a ways off if ever now) but that is a GREAT game, all 2D goodness of yesteryear. Look at Capcoms other moves, the Mega Man Collections and Mega Man X Collection due out in Jan 2006. Also remakes of games, even the remake of resident Evil for GameCube, yeah not '2D' but still remakes and retro going back is where it is at alot more companies should see. Wild ARMS was just remade as well, back on Capcom they seem to do and know what is right, I must say, well yeah Sould Calibur is a great game, but even with Ivy Valentine as NICE as she is, the games of all Sould Calibur's is still not as fun as Capcom's 2D fighters.

Also, the whole thing with Castlvania as well, yeah the PS2 Curse Of darkness was nice, but still, 'nothing' beats the older castlvania games, yes the 2D ones, on GBA and PSX and even SNES Genesis and NES, nothing can even touch those these days it seems.

I just am and would hope and pray the game companies see this and understand really the whole new 3D world is not exaclt all that great and wodnerful yet, I am still very much into remakes and retro games, and would hope for ALOT of older game collections and also alot of other games remade, as was said also above that Working Designs was doing with an 'older' Saturn Game named Dragon Force.

New games and ideas are always nice and great, but less we forget where we came from, something I love to ask all the game companies, well most of them, soem of them while I beat the piss out of them with a soda bottle.

            2d games > 3d games.

for the most part, i have a LOT more fun playing 2d games, latley. i just started playing wild arms alter code f, and it lost most of the great feeling that the original top down one gave me. hell i didnt even PLAY wild arms 2 or 3 more than a couple hours, cause they just seemed boring.

its funny though, cause there are some truley stellar games out now. dragon quest 8 is one of the finest rpgs, no... one of the finest GAMES i have ever played. with such a large, and beautifully designed world, thats just BEGGING to be explored. theres no way that this game could have been as good in 2d.

and i agree with you amy about the castlevanias. although i really enjoyed lament of innocence and curse of darkness, they are not even comparable to SoTN and the 3 gba ones. i really wanna play the new DS one, but first i have to buy a ds.... i STILL play SoTN, though, every few months or so, i have to play it.

but that is one reason why i enjoy my gba so much. especially now that some great snes remakes are being done. i just got ff4, for the gba, and it is awesome, and apparantly they are doin 5 and 6, too, which will be out in 06.

im really sad when a great company such as working designs closes down though, because it discourages other companies from doing the same things.

I agree with you also on what you said. :P The GBA is a great system thingy, hehe well I say thingy because I only use the GameCube GBA player, but as far as wonderful games the GBA is doing wonderful, FF5 and FF6 to come, well as with the others, sign me up, those will be wonderful. The FF series has made a staple in the GBA now, FFTatics which I admit I am and was late on, heck just grabbed that game the other day. (Found it for $9.95 at Toys R Us) and at the 'game stores' it is always back ordered and otherwise sold for some $30.00 now still new and it is not a new game, rare---so they claim, but was rather cheap at the Toys R Us.

So I agree FF series being remade with those little extras and such is making the GBA system not 'dead yet' Thank Goodness, as I would have expected with the DS out now. Otherwise with the GBA and it's 2D classics (2D to 'looking 3Ds I mean also.) and the 'collections on PS2 and such really the retro as I admit I LOVE so much is such a big thing, just hope someone out there in game company would get the idea again and say release alot of other 2D remakes and such.

I always LOVED Castlevania more in 2D, and could just see the remake of Castlevania 3 now with the big whoop-la of trevor in Curse Of darkness. They also need a remake of Ninja gaiden. all thsoe tecmo collectiong and nothing but football games, come on now. :P (As long as it is not on XBox with all that no cheat device mess and the way now how Tecmo Team Ninja loves to add in all those unlockible mess if you can play the game naked while standing fully balaneced on your index finger whil you eat and rub your breasts and play the game all that mess. PLUS Namco needs to revive the 'gory' horror of Splatterhosue again with no censoring this time and such. Those three would be my dreams now that so many other great older 2D games are indeed out.

So what you guys think? Now that there's eshop and psn store and stuff like that, niche stuff has a chance of being released. That's a good thing. If PS2 had a online store like PS3 did then I bet Goemon would have been greenlighted. A real market opened up for unusual games and 2d games too.

This thread is so old the last post was by Amy. Did something happen to your cookies where it mixed up old and new posts? You're 11 years late.

I wanted to bump it cause it had classic sceners in it. I was searching for Lunar 2 codes and this came up. I don't think bumping old threads is against the rules here so I thought it'd be ok.

I wasn't worried about the rules. It just seemed like such an old thread I wasn't sure you meant to intentionally post in it. I thought you were posting by accident or something.
