  • Fake email from Yahoo...

This is one way to tell if an email from Yahoo is fake. If you look at my screen shot of the email I got from Yahoo, you'll see a web address in the bottom Left corner: www.terrazz.......

Although you can't see it in the screen shot, my cursor was over the "CLICK HERE" link. If I would have clicked on that link, I wouldn't have gone to a Yahoo site, I would have gone to the www.terrazz....... site. No telling what's there, but I'm sure it wouldn't have been good.

Anytime you get a suspicious email like that, hover your mouse over the link without clicking on it and see where it's going to take you.

Tone's advice is not just useful for preventing e-mail scams, but the advice is also useful for all internet browsing. Before I click on any suspicious link, I ALWAYS hover over the link and look at the bottom left corner to see what web address the link leads to. Then after seeing what web address the link leads to, I check that web address with the following:

I wouldn't even hover over the link, as you can accidentally click it. Official Yahoo! mail is only sent from the sources stated in their Mail Help article. Once I see it isn't from any of those, I just delete the mail. That way, the human or robot sender gets no confirmation it was opened and moves on (hopefully). Also, that e-mail has poor grammar and punctuation.

And for those curious as to what the spam website looks like: http://www.domaintools.com/research/...terrazzini.it/

Hmm, that doesn't look like a malicious website. It actually looks like a professional website. It doesn't look like a website that would try to steal passwords from people.

EDIT: I ran that website through my website safety check list that I posted above and the only one that has an unsafe report is Norton Safe Web. It lists a Phishing Attack: http://safeweb.norton.com/report/sho...rrazzini.it%2F

Just found out that over 22 million people got data stolen from this, even though I don't use yahoo, thanks for the heads up Tony.
