  • Help playing .FDS games on VirtuaNES

I am trying to play .fds games on VirtuaNES. I have placed the DiskSys.rom file in the same directory as the VirtuaNES executable. But when I try to load a .fds game, I get an error that says "Unsupported Format". Can anyone please help?

I've searched extensively on how to fix this problem but all I could find was everyone saying to make sure you put the DiskSys.rom file in the same directory as virtuanes.exe. But I've already done that. And yes, I made sure the DiskSys file type is ".rom" instead of ".bin".

I already have it working for FCEUX, I want to get it working for VirtuaNES as well.

Also, I tried running a .fds game in Nintendulator and I got an error message that says "fds header signature not found". I have the disksys.rom file in the same directory as nintendulator.exe. I am thinking that this is the same reason why it will not load in VirtuaNES. I think it has to do with headers. I think I need to add headers to my FDS ROMs. The ROMs are from the GoodSet.

Is there a simple program that you recommend that adds or removes .fds headers?

I really don't understand why you have to use so many emulators.

I don't know what the problem is, I have the disksys rom in the folder where I have all my emulators and everything works fine. I don't even have to set a path, VNES just recognizes the bios file right away.

Try putting everything in a new folder, just in case.

I tried that... no dice. Do you have GoodSet, No-Intro, or TOSEC? Because I think it's not working because of a header problem.

You may have to set up a path pointing to it, not really sure though, haven't used VNES in a while.

No, you don't. You just have to put disksys.rom in the same folder as the emulator.

How about getting a different rom from a different site and maybe updating the emulator?

Yeah, you probably have a bad bios or an old emu.

My BIOS works on FCEUX and Nestopia. I also tried downloading the BIOS from multiple websites. And you should know that I always keep my emulators up-to-date. I am friggin puzzled. I tried installing the emulators to new folders, I've tried GoodSet and No-Intro ROMs, and it still doesn't work.

Did you test it out to see if it works on your computer Rey? Since we have the same computer.

There is special reason you having more than one NES emulators?

Most FDS games have been fan translated and converted fds to nes format

Show some respect. The Famicom Computer Disk System had a lot of quality titles that are genre defining. Most notably:

Baseball, Super Mario Bros, Zelda no Densetsu: The Hyrule Fantasy (J), Akumajō Dracula. Bomberman, Bubble Bobble, BurgerTime, Clu Clu Land, Dracula II: Noroi no Fūin, Gyruss, Ice Hockey and Super Mario Bros 2 (J)...

                            ...to the more obscure:

Ai Senshi Nicol, Golf, Apple Town Monogatari: Little Computer People, Asmik Land... including my favourite, Bio Miracle Bokutte Upa.
