  • Arc the Lad Collection...

I've got eh, backups of all three of the games... But they don't seem to work on a real playstation. They do emulate fine, and for some reason 2 will run for about the first 2 hours of the game before crashing on an event... Does anybody know if the games are copy protected, or what?

Also, is there supposed to be seemingly corrupt backgrounds in Arc 2 in some places? The ones I noticed were the first time you're in the hunter's guild, and Shu's apartment durring the day... If they're not normally like that, then the problem I'm having is probably a badly ripped image...

i dont believe they are copy protected... i played through #1 with no problems, on my modded psone, and probably half way through #2.

try re-burning them maybe? sometimes burning at slower speeds help too...

I tried that twice, but no luck. It's probably a side effect of my playstation being too old to handle an old, badly programmed game that has no consideration for read errors. Or, it could just be a bad disc image...

Now if I only had a less heavily used drive in the thing, or just one that didn't wobble... Oh well.

One way to find out for sure would be to borrow or rent an original copy of the game and see if it behaves the same way.

I'd do that, except I don't know anybody who has the game and none of the rental places around here have psx games these days. And even though I'd consider buying a used copy, I haven't seen any.

You could try it on a different playstation, perhaps even try it on a PS2.
You could also try downloading it again (preferably from a different source), you may have gotten a bad dump, or it may have gotten messed up while downloading.

Well, nobody around here has a playstation, and I don't know anybody with a modded ps2... So I'll just download it if I can find a copy again. Or, what I should do is just forget about trying to run it on real hardware...

i personally have stopped playing psone games on real hardware. games look sooo much better running through an emu, and save states come in handy.

if you want to try dling it again, i am pretty sure i saw it on the piratebay.org....

My guess would be the image was ripped from a damaged disc. There are 3 torrents (Arc The Lad Collection discs) on www.underground-gamer.com you have to sign up but its full of PSX stuff. As well as DC, Saturn, PC etc. I get most of my PSX iso's there.

Ahh, cool. I've been having trouble locating decent torrent sites for games...

Agh, that's yet another site that has a slightly fucked up reigstration system... But at least it actually works, even though it doesn't visually confirm that it did anything on the site.
