Clean the lens with some alcohol and a cotton swab and lastly buy a replacement laser or try to tweak the cd drive pot (using a digital Multimeter like the $8 Harbor Freight one).

^ The pot method is a good way to go when everything else fails. I "fixed" my XBox by adjusting the potentiometer, and the thing ran great afterwards, although it now seems to be acting up again :/

Hey, does anyone know if performing a software hack on a PSX can ruin it permanently? I was trying to get imbNES to work on my Playstation, but after doing so haven't been able to get *any* games to run on it. Only music discs will play. The unit was just about worn out anyway, so maybe its failure was just a coincidence?

Nah there is no way some software would ruin the system unless you were messing with a bios hack but that involves hardware hacking/soldering sounds like laser is dead.

Ah, that's good to know, thanks. Sucks though: I was making progress in Megaman Legends 2 and Gauntlet Legends

A good alternative and I might pick one up when its out is this SD card adapter to play ISO's off the SD card.

            http://psio.com.au/

I would to have to do some soldering on my end since its fun to do but its a cartridge type device like the GS/Pro.

That's some pretty cool shit. My psx and ps1 are modded, but at least I wouldn't have to burn backups discs anymore.
