  • Massive storm here in South Dakota/Minnesota

    http://www.aberdeennews.com/mld/aber...s/13274903.htm

Well, Me and my girl got stuck in another town the other night. My girl got off work and waited at my friends house and I kept working till 10 pm. When I got off work There was a coat of ice on my car and the road a inch thick. I had to use a knife to break the ice off, but when I finally got the stuff off it was to slick to drive on it anyway. Anyway, we had to spend the night there. The next day we were fortunate to find someone providing emergency transportation to get us home. There was alot of powerlines hanging low because of the ice. and lots of tree branches on the ground, and lots of telephone poles tipped over. Damn, it's probably the 2nd worst storm I been thru. Mostly because it rained here all day yesterday, which turned to ice.

Well, I'm the quality control agent at Dakota Western Corperation. I pretty much check to see that the stuff we make is good. We make rolls of plastic that can be used for garbage bags. It's kinda an important job cause there is only 4 of us, 1 for each shift. It's not to hectic of work, probably the best job I've had so far. Decent pay and decent work.

That's the best part of living in the South, Summer can be rough with hurricanes, but we don't get massive ice and snowstorms that can cripple an entire city.

Although hurricanes can cripple an entire state.

I am with him, yes not too bad here really as far as the blizard mess goes, though we do get some snow and ice, and have in the past frooze a few times.

Though as BloodReign said, yeah the hurricane mess is pretty much 'it' here, and pretty darn scary as well.... been lucky for a long time, but never sure when the next one is always to come. Otherwise, hurricane season is 'over' today as the news just said, but nothing really all 'good' they are already saying up and down how '2006' will be just as bad if not worst then 2005 was...another active year they are already saying to look for---scary mess.

I love where I live here in the south, yet at times wish time would just stop at times, well at leats tile I lived a few years say 60 or so, ....eh well...life sad and scary at times but will have to see....

I'll take the inconvenince of ice and snow over the disaster of hurricanes. Plus I would miss the changing of the seasons if I lived in the south.

I like where I'm at...central Texas, away from hurricanes, beyond an escarpment that pretty much eliminates the possibility of tornadoes, even though we're in the middle of "Tornado Alley", and we have two seasons: Summer, and Spring. Then Summer comes again...ahh, the seasons. Heheh.

The 2 seasons you're missing are my 2 favs....
Fall is my #1 fav season, winter is second (despite the snow and ice). Spring is 3rd (merely by default), and I hate summer. 90+ degrees in the shade ain't my bag, espically not around here where the humidity is always high.

The weather always sucks around here, it seems like. There's 4 seasons, but they're usually pretty horrible. Hell, until 2 days ago, it was around 50-60 outside... But now it's snowing, which makes getting around a pain in the ass. But, not anything as bad as an ice storm yet. I'm not sure what it is, but I don't mind it being cold, but once there's snow/ice I hate it...

Sounds a lot like around here. About 4 days ago it was snowing, 2 days ago it was 65 degrees, now it's 40 and looks like it'll snow again.

Fortunately I got all my outdoor xmas lights up before thanksgiving, so I don't have to try to get them up in the cold and snow.

Massive storm here in South Dakota/Minnesota

That sounds like 'here' in N.C. pretty much also.... not knocking the weatehr so far, as I said for someone who lives on the ebach prone to flooding ALOT, I have been very lucky, very lucky.

But otherwise, today it is cool (my favorite I like it cool yet not cold) tomarrow it will eb freezing, last week ist was steaming at 90 degrees in November of all months. (Yes 90 degrees is HOT to me specialy with as Cypherswipe said the humitiy. I mean I am not in a desert ofcorse but still, get above '80' degrees and on a humid day and I tend to not find it too pleasing at all, I am very cold and cool natured as far as heat and cold goes.

Otherwise I must disagree sorry but I do like snow and ice, a small bit, not when it is bad, but when it is pure and pelasing and not a blizzard, I do enjoy it. Here in N.C. we tend to get that alot in the winter time, snow yet not the blizzard mess like Hiro gets in his area, a few times it has god 'bad' but well 'really' what they call abd here, as far as snow goes, I am sure where and what Hiro lives with he would laugh at us. (It is considered 'bad' here when they on the news tell you to get the chains out for the tires on your cars and such.) Something they do where Hiro is and around that area of the nation all the time anyway pretty much, so indeed 'bad' here I know we would be laughed at pretty much.

Heat here otherwise tends to get at me again as I said, but mostly, again I do like the area I live in, yes a few 'mess ups' weatehr wise, they 'claim' the state is in a drout and YET where I am, the rivers and lakes and other water bodies is rather overflowing. (Wilmington area of N.C. ahs a surplus of PLUS 12 inches of rain fall) go west and you get to the - 16 inches and such, where they need rain and such...so kind of odd all these rain storms came all along the coastal area this eyar (hurricane mess and seems to always hugs the coastal area...ehh the ways of hurricanes and storms generated by all those other hurricanes that came by otherwise.)

But well... just as is again I love this area myself, yes the hurricanes scare me to death as I do live on the beach, and well no other realatives other then right close in my own area, so running to the hills to live with grandmother is not exactly an option for me, gmy grandmother lives right next door to me otherwise. So indeed hurricanes and being in a hurricane area does make me nervous ALOT.

But otherwise, is nice most time around here,'coldness' and coolness is finally setting in, it was 'cooking' back on Halloween and even lastw eek on Thanskgiving of all days, was steaming hot, but seems the coolness is setting in for the upcomming week in any case, and as siad, I love it more cool then hot, so that will be nice for awhile anyway.

Sorta in the 'middle' of the east coastal area here, so hot and cold, we do get them both alot here, after all N.C. called the varity vacation land state, can go snow skiing and swimming (in the ocean) all in same day. err well maybe not all in same day, after all, snow skiing in mountains and the ocean front is 'wide' apart a good days drive by car, but well that is the 'advertisment' they use here in N.C. to promote the state and such.

Again not dressing up my area, not saying it is any better or worst then your area any of you live in, just is well where I call home, and heck even home has it's bad mess at times, like hurricanes blahhhh....

Massive storm here in South Dakota/Minnesota

Well this ice rain was pretty stressful for all of us. I know that alot employees had to stay home and no rides to get to work and lose out on money, for those that have to work, they couldnt get to work.
Hiro and I were pretty worried about our kids cause we were stuck out there while they were homealone, luckly I have a friend who lives in the same town as us. She was nice to come and get them. I can get used to Snow storm because I am from Canada and the temptatures there can be below 40- or 50- sometimes you can freeze your butt out there....lol. But to see the icy rain and mixed with snow and strong winds are scary,

As for the seasons I would have to say Fall Not too hot not to cold but I like the Summer also. Summer you can do alot in the Summer, swimming, BBQ's, travelling, and no hassel with the traffic unless its under construction,

Since moving out here in the United States,Tornadoes and thunderstorms are my fears, I think snow doesnt do any damages other then, going out there to shovel it. Which I did alot back in Canada. Now that I have a man to do that for me .......lol

We pretty much had to adjust to alot of things.

ummmm well, I am pretty sure it is not and cannot be the 'same storm'...a storm yes, but truely after this long of a time, cannot be the 'same' storm really.

Your storm, snow storm is happening now or a few hours from 'now' on Feb 16th 2006 (1:02 am right now easturn time) The storm that Hiro was talking about hit 'way' back on Nov. 28th 2005...so really cannot be the 'same' storm really....

It's funny he brings up a storm tho. There may be another storm on it's way here again. I don't know how bad it will be. Not likely to be as powerful as the previous storm. No ice for instance. Just your standard snow storm.
