Members of a few different gaming communities have come together to run a video game speedrunning marathon to raise money for Hurricane Sandy relief (all money donated goes to the Red Cross). The marathon ends tomorrow night, but there are still plenty of speedruns left. The livestream, schedule, and other information can be found at http://www.hurricanesandython.com/
I tend to get really absorbed in these charity marathons. While this one isn't quite the same as SpeedDemosArchive's semi-annual marathons, as the runners are all streaming from their homes instead of being together in a central location, it has still been fun to watch. They have raised nearly $15,000 so far, and their original goal was $10k, so the marathon has been a success. If you have a little bit of spare time, check out the livestream and consider donating a little if you are in a position to do so. They have prize drawings throughout the marathon and a larger drawing for a grand prize at the end.
